 "Great Little Printer" 2010-08-07

I needed a small printer and this fits the bill. I store it in a drawer and bring it out only when needed. It works very well and the printing looks great.

"Not for Windows 7 and even difficult to install with XP" 2010-07-07
By Michael Wilkinson (Atlanta, GA)
I think of myself as a fairly savvy PC user. However, I was amazed when at the end of the install, the install program reported that the H470 does NOT run with my Windows 7 operating system. I figured the install disk was old so I Googled and found the windows 7 drivers. Installed them, reconfigured the printer to use the new drivers - yet the printer did not respond to the test page. So deleted the printer, reinstalled the drivers, reinstalled the printer, and still to no avail.

After 2 hours of effort, I finally gave up trying to install this on my current PC and installed the drivers on an old XP laptop. The printer still would not print a test page. How frustrating!

It's going back to the store.

"Very disappointed in this printer. NO more HP for me." 2010-06-16
By Carl
Seems to me HP started going down hill in quality and reliability about the same time Ms. Fiorina was at the helm. She sent a lot of HP jobs overseas and created total chaos out of the ill fated Compaq merger. The company has never really recovered from that. She was fired but the damage has infected the company like nothing else in its long history. HP used to be the gold standard in inkjet printers that every other company measured itself against.

I went through two of the 470 mobile printers in a couple of months and ended up sending one back to my IT department and trashing the other one. I also had an Office jet printer I purchased for my home office a couple of years ago and it died prematurely as well. My HP small form factor Desktop had the hard drive crash twice, the first time at least was under warranty and was replaced. It still acts up every now and then and I have had to reinstall Windows XP from scratch more than once, thank god for backups! The 470 mobile printer can't stand up to the everyday travel and kept jamming, flashing all sorts of stupid warning lights and codes. The first one lasted 6 or 7 weeks, and its replacement quit after 2 weeks.

I was on the road when the last one died since I travel constantly for my job, so I went to a local Office Depot and got myself a Canon Pixma 90 and I am still using it 2 years later. Canon makes a far better and more rugged product. I would rather buy American, but this really is a cheap made in China or god knows where printer and the quality is nonexistent. Save your money and buy a Canon if you need a mobile printer.

 "HP 470" 2010-06-11

Unit works fine and have no problems with it locking up or paper jams. When I change the color ink cartridge I get horizontal bands through the pictures I print. I clean the cartridge and is get better but still visible. After printing several pages problem disappears until next change. No problem with black. I use one to two ink cartridges a day for my job and print text and photos. Two others in the office have the same printer and they don't have that problem. Go figure. Not much else to choose from in the market for a portable printer.

"Nice printer, but carriage jams are a problem" 2010-05-28
By Amanda Flynn (Columbus, OH)
I recently purchased about 150 of these printers from HP for my company, so our people in the field can use them on the go. They are great for mobility, the speed and quality are great, cartridges last a long time, BUT... we are having an overwhelming amount of problems with 'carriage stalled' error messages. The print cartridges will not move. Every manual and troubleshooting thing I see says this is due to a paper jam, but it isn't. I have yet to figure out what causes it and how to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to figure it out? I'm afraid the problem is so common that this venture to buy all these mobile printers may be considered a failure. I should have gotten the warranty - HP would have been peppered with returned printers.
