"Well made, secure, and feature rich" 2010-07-20
By Bob N. Johnson
We bought the S200 2G version, but thought this review would help all Ironkey buyers.

Obviously this device is not inexpensive, but if you want added security then this is the best. The key is very easy to use; because the key will self-destruct after only 10 failed attempts a password of moderate strength is all that is required. The on-board Identity Manager is a very good App, but did not transfer all of my passwords from Roboform, which I highly recommend. I installed Roboform2Go. Roboform2Go is resident on the key, it produces random passwords and has its own encryption, giving 2 layers of encryption for passwords and safenotes, another great feature. Would have given the Ironkey 5 stars if the included Identity Manager worked better.

The on-board version of Firefox is not only more secure, but with a password manager everything needed to more safely do business on the web is always available. All of this still leaves plenty of room to store sensitive financial and personal identity documents and information. And all of this is unavailable as soon as the key is locked and removed from the computer.

Finally a portable and secure password keeper, document vault, and browser.

BTW, also recommend adding the BetterPrivacy add-on to help keep the key clean. BetterPrivacy removes LSO's (Local Shared Objects); LSO's are very similar to cookies, but are not removed by Firefox.

From Wikipedia:

"LSOs can be used by web sites to collect information on how people navigate those web sites even if people believe they've restricted the data collection.[4] More than half of the internet's top websites use LSOs to track users and store information about them.[5] There is relatively little public awareness of LSOs, and they can usually not be deleted by the cookie privacy controls in a web browser.[5] This may lead a web user to believe a computer is cleared of tracking objects, when it is not.[5]"

"great printer for med school" 2010-09-05
By Saurabh Bajpai
I have to print of many pages of notes with tons of diagrams, which honestly can not be differentiated without color. This allows me to do that. Since i also print so much, the laser is the way to go, b/c it saves much more money in the long run. Also i can refill the toner myself (so i'm saving more money by not constantly changing toners). This thing is big and i do mean really really big. Be prepared to have a very sturdy table to hold it up. The color comes out great, i wouldn't go on to say that it is phenomenal (but then again i wouldn't expect it for $350 either). The color do justice to what i need it for and will for most people. If you are in photography and need a really great printer (this probably isn't it). Hope this helps.

I won't buy again. Had to toss this one and I bought the HP 4014n B&W. Fast, quiet, cheaper toner. I can use my inkjet if I need color. Don't buy color laser unless you need color all the time. Toner costs are outrageous and toner wont last long even if only printing B&W because it draws from all the color toner cartridges.

"Very dull muddy looking prints" 2010-08-19
By Wondurgurl (Toronto, ON)
If you're looking for dull, lifeless prints with muddy colors, this is the printer for you. I've tried changing the setting on the printer to "vivid" and oversaturated my picture, but the color prints still come out looking like they've been washed in mud. I can see this printer being good for flyers. The duplex ability of the printer is really handy and the black and white printing is very good.

"Excellent printer at a reasonable price" 2010-08-11
By Mike DeMaria_AMZ
I run a small business and occasionally need color. The most important things to me are cost, crisp printing, and speed. This printer combines all 3.

I purchased this printer to replace my Samsung CLP500 network color laser. It was a pig, constantly eating consumables. I finally had enough when a few months ago it complained that it was out of cyan toner - if I printed 100 pages of color that was a lot! I found all my cyan, and magenta, AND yellow toner in the 'waste toner bucket'. Every time the printer warmed up, it cycled the color toners, wasting them. Since it was a single drum machine, color printing was SLOW (think 4 pages a minute)

This Brother printer does NOT waste toner, and the 4 drums (one for each color) mean SPEEDY color printing. What I really love about it is when I print straight black and white, which is 99% of the time. Where the Samsung ran the color developers even if you only printed black and white, the Brother does NOT. It is smart enough to know when to run what, saving money.

The PDF manual is great, walking me through the procedure to clean one of the drums when I had a print quality problem (repeating mark). Network setup was easy. The duplex printing is also great (albeit a bit slow).

Just like others have said, pop those levers in the back if you are going to be printing envelopes and LEAVE them that way. I had some bad wrinkles, and that fixed them in a jiffy. Regular printing is still AOK even with the levers in the envelope position.

The only negative I have about the printer (and it's a VERY small one) is that the plastic feels a bit cheap and thin.

All in all, a great purchase!

"Does not print in the center of page." 2010-09-28
By R. Mau (seattle)
You need to adjust your document 1/16 in right of center to have your document print in the center of the page. Called Brother support and they printed a test page on their model, and it came out left of center also. They had no suggestions on how to fix the problem. Horrible support center. Was on the phone for almost an hour to try to get this problem resolved.

"Very satisfied with Brother products" 2010-09-19
By sonicare reviewer (California)
I've bought several Brother products over the years, and always been happy. This one is great too. When one of my colleagues recommended me a Brother printer many years ago, I said, "Brother, of all makers?" But, once I bought my first Brother product, I was completely sold out to them. Everything I bought since then from them exceeded my expectations. Their product lasts very long (often donate perfectly working product just to swap it out with newer products, not because anything is wrong.) Their support staff are the best also. They always provided me with fast services and right solutions. I can't remember ever spending a lot of time on the phone with them to resolve any tech issues (even though it's rare that I need to call them, simply because their stuff work just fine.) I would recommend Brother products to anyone.

It takes a minute or so to warm up when first printing. Noise is moderate for a home office. DO NOT GET THIS PRINTER IF YOU NEED ANY FORM OF QUALITY PHOTO PRINTS! As for printing of standard documents, it prints satisfactory. If I had known that it had such poor photo quality prints(even on the highest quality print settings) I would not have purchased this printer.

 "Brother MFC - 9440CN Printer" 2010-05-04
By Kenneth Burns (Thornton, CO USA)
I previously owned a B/W Brother multi-function printer and thought it was a wonderful piece of technology. Why then did I buy a new one. Something happened to the printer and I thought it would cost more to fix it than replace it. After looking around my suspicious were correct. Set up was fast and it actually took longer to setup the software than to put the unit together. (User goof) Over the years I have held a strong preference for HP Printers. In the past 4 years though, Brother has replaced that preference. Operation cost, ease of setup, faster printer engines for the comparable cost all give the edge to Brother. Good luck with your next printer purchase but mine will very likely be another Brother printer.

"Decent Small Office Workhorse BUT..." 2010-05-04
By J. Cole
We've had this printer for over a year and I generally think the Canon imageCLASS MF6540 is a decent all-in-one small office workhorse. It prints, copies and scans and has done so admirably given the mid-to heavy use it gets as a printer and copier. I does its job as the office scanner as well.

PROS:

1. It prints documents well. No complaints about it printing crooked, blurry, etc.

2. Canon toner seems to last quite a while (the large toner cartridge, not the smaller one).

3. It has a document feeder to photocopy a small stack of documents (about 20 pages).

4. It can copy/scan on the flatbed portion of the printer. Good for small/odd-sized documents.

5. Scans in black and white, grey scale or color. We use it for documents, not photographs. The ability to switch between the document feeder or flatbed to scan makes the MF6450 versatile. It comes with software that converts all scanned documents into PDF or JPEG formats.

6. Easy to set up on the network (has an ethernet port) or as a printer connected to a computer.

CONS:

1. Complicated menus. In order to switch between letter/legal sized documents and envelopes on the multifunction tray, you need to scroll through several sets of menus on the printer itself. I have it memorized by heart now.

2. Canon toner is about $140+ for the large cartridge. Not cheap. But lasts for about five months (I try to get every "drop" of ink before replacing the toner).

3. Document feeder is temperamental: it does not like too-thin paper, so it will just "eat" multiple sheets together and jam. Nor does it like folds or staple holes in the paper, because anything that can make the sheets catch together, this will be an instant paper jam in the document feeder. The width adjustment "arms" of the document feeder also causes the paper jams, too: it's a mite skinner than 8.5", so it squeezes the paper, making it difficult for the rollers to pull the paper through the feeder. (The same rollers that jam on too thin paper, or anything that will cause the sheets to catch together.)

4. Slow scanner: it takes about six to ten seconds per page to scan a black and white document at 300 DPI, using the sheet feeder. If have to scan a stack of documents, this not the multifunction machine you're looking for (see Con #3). It seems slower using the flatbed scanner at the same setting. I would recommend a dedicated scanner if you have a lot of documents for scanning.

5. Scanner does not like the color blue, so if you have documents with blue ink, then it will not come out if you scan in black and white. You have to use gray scale, which makes the file a little bigger. This is of some concern if you have to email the scanned document and the recipient has a file size limit on email attachments.

6. Print per page output is a bit slow compared to a dedicated laser printer (had an HP Laserjet 1200 prior to this scanner, it had a faster print output than the MF6540).

7. It's HUGE. Bigger than I thought it would be. If you have a small space, I would not recommend it.

8. It's rather noisy: either using the sheet feeder or printing.

In conclusion, I don't regret buying the Canon Imageclass MF6540 because it has been relatively reliable despite the cons I listed. The document feeder is annoying and has caused some moments where I just wanted to kill it since it was jamming constantly when I was on a deadline. It's a solid office machine, but I do wish it printed/scanned quicker and a less diva-ish document feeder.

 "Terrific for the money" 2010-03-23
By Garry Grossman
The 6500 does most of what my $10,000 machine does, only slightly slower. Toner setting, which can be changed, is a bit rich, but this boosts print quality. Set-up was upset when the Network Port setting inexplicably changed the first night, and had to be revised the next day. Toner is a bit pricey. And, if output speed is an issue, buy a second machine and enjoy a back-up. Then you can say goodbye to expensive service contracts. Canon's got a winner here.

"Great little copier and printer." 2010-02-11
By Robert N. Moody (Staunton, VA United States)
Simply works. Works well through a network from a wifi system. Cost per copy is higher than a large commercial copier, but that is to be expected for a low-volume machine. The ability to print duplex from a computer (we use all Macs) is a plus. It will not scan from a Mac, however, but that is not a problem as we never intended to use it that way. Replacement cartridges are available at a very reasonable cost on Amazon. Canon has brought out a newer model of this machine.

 "Great machine!" 2010-01-13
By J. Miller
I have two of these machines now. I use them daily in my business. The first one I've had a little over three years, the second one I just purchased. The older machine stopped working two weeks after its three year warranty (Cannon used to give a three year warranty, now it's one). I called Cannon and they fixed it free as good will that my machine was only two weeks out of warranty (how great is that!). I can't say enough about how great these machines are and only $300! PS= I use both machines to print monthly bills (from the auxiliary feed) that are precut and 3.75" x 8.5". This is a bit tricky to set-up as you have to double-click the printer icon and set-up the size as custom on your computer, and you also have to set-up the custom size on the printer itself. Once you get it set up right, your done and don't have to mess with it again.

"OK printer, scanning software stopped working" 2010-09-29
By Dusty (Joliet, IL)
OK but slightly blurry printing like most ink jets. Would have been an acceptable unit if the scanning software didn't stop working. Tried to download the patch but my computer went into an endless install loop (each must be cancelled and software won't install). Don't know if this is a Vista only problem. Thought that HP would have been able to correct the issue after six months but maybe they moved on. They must not want to keep making tons of $ on the cartridges.

"Consumes an enormous amount of inks; annoying frequent automatic updates." 2010-09-23
By Po Po
This is the worst printer I've ever had, although I formerly loved my previous HP printers. It consumes an enormous amount of inks, so the cartridges run out very quickly and it is expensive printing everyday items. I used to love making greeting cards, but no longer bother because it wastes too much ink. My former printer cartridges used to last for months even with heavy use for graphics, but this one requires new cartridges in weeks with light use. The double-size cartridges don't seem to last much longer.

Despite frequent cleaning and alignments, the printer often produces streaky/striped graphics.

For several months or longer, the printer's software would annoyingly update automatically at least a few times per week - as though they decided to work out the bugs after they sold it.

The scanner program is more complicated that it was on my previous printers. The copy features works OK.

On the whole, this machine stinks.

 "HP... Never again." 2010-07-24
By TheBuckinghamPalace
This is my 3rd HP printer. I don't know why... everyone I've bought has been terrible. I guess because it always seems like the biggest bang for your buck. They are always running deals at Target, Costco, Walmart, etc... Don't fall for it. HP is a terrible company. If you only use your printer once ever couple of months, this printer might make it through the year. Maybe. Other problems? Oh yeah! The ink cartridges seem so be bone dry after 30 pages or so. I'm pretty sure it would be faster, less frustrating, and cheaper to start using the Kinkos/FedEx store to print out all my coupons. It's also really loud. I would leave the room when it starts printing, but then I couldn't sit in front of it while manually feeding the paper through it in order to prevent paper jams. And there are paper jams. Lots of paper jams! The only part of the printer that worked semi problem free is the scanner. Which I've used maybe three times. The quality was terrible, but it worked. Let me see, did I leave anything out? Well, it's ugly, flimsy, poorly made, and in the end a terrible deal. I'm tired of HP. I know they're a cheaper brand so I shouldn't expect too much of them, but this is the last straw! DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. I started searching Google to try and see if I could fix it myself, and whatayaknow... I have trouble even finding an article with my specific problem because there are SO MANY OTHER POSTS about EVERYTHING ELSE on this printer breaking down, not working, or looking terrible. I really want to know if the people that rated this higher than 3 stars got to use it more than a week before they rated it. Either that, or HP has an entire department of employees hired just to spam good ratings on these sites. Those are the only explinations. So let's sum up: 1) DON'T BUY THIS. 2)If you already have-I'm sorry. I really am... 3)And don't buy this.

"Less than a star if possible - Junk" 2010-10-05
By Edsallstein (Seattle, WA USA)
Of the tens of printers I have purchased the past 20 years this is the WORST. It looks great, has a great feature list but rarely works correctly and then only for a few days. This is my second printer. I demanded that Lexmark replace the first one. This works slightly better. I am in a hurry; I am a businessman who needs a business printer. I can only say that the other reviewers were paid for their review or they don't rely on the printer every day, all day.

The first printer, could not find documents in the feeder, send email, or send faxes and would stop printing until the printer was turned off AND the computer was rebooted.

Lexmark CS fixes; use the scanner instead of the feeder, get a new email provider, reduce fax speed to the lowest setting, and go through a 10 step process with the computer to get the spooler to clear. This was the first printer.

The second one stops printing until the printer AND the cpu are rebooted (say goodbye to all of those items in the print spooler), cannot find faxes in the document feeder half of the time as for email I haven't wasted any more time on this paperweight.

Lexmark's fixes for the second one; use Vista instead of Win 7. Ok, so I change the OS on my computer for the printer! Did I mention that we run XP, Vista and 7 in our office. It hangs with all of them. I have reinstalled the drivers on every computer twice. I have reinstalled the printer software twice. My last contact from Lexmark said that "in cases of trouble" remove the power supply from the printer for 1 minute and try again. Great. Poor solution that doesn't even work 1/2 of the time.

RUN DON'T WALK. THERE ARE MANY GREAT PRINTERS OUT THERE. I AM CALLING LEXMARK CORPORATE NEXT. WISH ME LUCK AND DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE.

 "Great Setup!" 2010-09-24
By D. Weber (Chicago, IL USA)
We bought this printer several months ago to use with two people on a network of Macintosh computers. The planned usage of the printer is to print out college papers (duplex printing and low black ink cost were VERY important), scanning photos, scanning bills and other correspondence and a fax machine to use in a pinch.

So far the printer has been great! No major problems and the blank ink is CHEAP (Just ordered a cartridge for $5 and the last one lasted for several months). Would not hesitate to recommend over the latest HP printers that we've owned.

That said there have been a few annoyances:

1 - We make extensive use of Duplex printing. Annoying thing is though . . . If you have an odd number of pages that you want to print from the computer as a duplexed document with multiple copies . . . The software isn't smart enough to inform the printer to insert an extra blank page. For instance I've printed one page documents and forgot to turn off duplex printing. It printed one copy of the document on one side of the page then another copy of the document on the other side of the page

2 - I replaced the black ink and the printer would not acknowledge the replacement until I unplugged the power and plugged it back in

3 - The scanning software's auto insert into iPhoto is glitchy with the latest version. I haven't been able to get photos to directly import yet (need to call their tech support and see how good they are) This is why I dinged them one star for ease of use.

4 - There was a glitch in the wireless network that knocked out all network connections for a time. Reset the router. The laptops recognized the issue and came back online just fine. The Apple TV and the Lexmark Platinum Pro 905 both had to be unplugged and plugged back in to get back on the network.

That said these are all minor complaints. I think this is a spectacular printer that I hope will last a long time.

"This printer (and its predecessor) are the only ones our company uses" 2010-09-20
By Ron Rahav
I'm an IT Administrator.

Between this printer (HL-5370) and its VERY similar predecessor (HL-5250), our company has about 25 printers. We've had very few mechanical problems in the last few years. If you download the printer driver from their web site [...] then you can get a very small driver that installs NOTHING else, just the basic driver - No bloatware.

For normal/casual users, the printer and driver are very easy to setup.

However, TechnoGeeks like me, can also mange the printers through a web/HTML interface and BROTHER's BRAdmin software with which you can set the printers to send you email alerts for various events like "Drum Near end of LIfe" or "Low Toner"

These printers official life span span is 100,000 pages. After that, the fuser has to be replaced at a cost of 60%-80% of the price of a new printer. You can however continue using the printer beyond the 100,000 page mark. The printer in my office, has already passed the 100,000 mark and is working fine.

BROTHER's Tech. Support is abysmal, so it's a good thing these printers are more reliable than most.

 "Brother Laser printer" 2010-09-20
By Teresa Doyle (Albuquerque, NM USA)
Had to get on line to figure out how to set up the second paper tray. Other than that it was very easy to set up and use. We have a Brother all in one with the same printer that has been very dependable. We hope for the same thing from this one.

 "PERFECT FOR SMALL OFFICE" 2010-02-06
By Patrick Hicks (ARLINGTON, TX)
WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH OUR PURCHASE OF THE BROTHER LASER PRINTER. ORIGINALLY WE HAVE BEEN USING AN INK JET PRINTER AND WERE FRUSTRATED WITH THE HIGH INK REPLACEMENT COST, WET COPIES, ETC... WE MADE THE SWITCH TO THE LASER PRINTER MADE BY BROTHER AND ONLY WISH WE HAD SWITCHED SOONER. THIS LASER PRINTER IS SUPER FAST, HAS AN ADDITIONAL PAPER TRAY, COPIES ARE DRY, WE HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE INK YET (BY THIS TIME WOULD HAVE HAD TO REPLACE INK SEVERAL TIMES WITH INK JET). THE BROTHER LASER PRINTER CAN HANDLE OUR SMALL OFFICE OF 5 EMPLOYEES WORKLOAD WITH NO PROBLEMS.

Just got this in. Hooked it up to my wired network and Mac, PC and Linux were all immediately able to see/print to it. The print jobs I got out of it... stunning. The colors are rich and vibrant; the print speed is quite good; I just love this printer.

"Love it - see short video for details" 2010-02-02
By Jobba (San Francisco)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R20G0N5EZKL1EV I got this printer in order to develop professional quality prints and presentations, which include graphics, photos, and charts. My trusty inkjet printer, while fantastic on photo paper, bled ever so slightly to make graphics on normal paper look sloppy to a discerning eye.

I researched for 3 days, scoured every website regarding color laserjets, before deciding on this printer. And let me say I was not overly excited about going with an HP - service is notoriously iffy - but the quality to price ratio beat out all the other lesser brands (at least in the sub-$1k price range)

The printer is expensive, and toner incredibly expensive as well. ($112 right now for the black standard capacity, and $225 for each of the 3 colors). It is true that the initial toner is 1/3 full, but they should last about 3,000 prints. A relative has the previous generation hp printer (the price of toner has not gone up), and he says that he bought one set of toner 3 years ago and they're still working, 5-7,000+ prints later.

If you have high yield needs, I would recommend doing a price comparison on toners and how often they'll need changing, but my need was much more quality based.

And the prints are fantastic. High resolution, good depth to color, no bleeding or smearing - exactly what I needed. Photos look nice also (though I'll still use the inkjet for photos on photo paper).

See the video to get a gauge on the print quality, time to print, and noise. Note that this is printed on standard, default quality. When it's not printing it's quite silent, although from sleep mode it does take 2+- minutes to calibrate, clean, and be print-ready.

Pros:

High quality color printing (my priority)

Fast

Cheaper than some other professional quality color laserjets

Cons:

Loud when printing

Big and heavy (2 people recommended to lift, but not impossible for one)

HP can be tough to work with should problems arise

Expensive toner

Depending on how you situate, the power and usb/network connections might be inconvenient (see video)

Large graphic files take a few extra minutes

But, all the cons are more than manageable for me again due to my priority of high quality printing, so 5 stars.

"Good and Fast output but Noisy" 2010-01-19
By East Wood
I had the printer setup in my home office 8 feet or so away from where I work.

The Good.

1) Fast and excellent output

2) Easy to set up for networking. (Just follow the simply direction and it worked the first time)

3) Works well with OSx and MS

The Bad

1) Bit large and heavy (not too bad)

2) sounds like a VACUUM CLEANER when it turns on

3) the fan sound never seems to end even when it is in the sleep mode. (it does end eventually)

Conclusion.

If you don't care about ambience then this printer may be good for you, but I would not have it any area where I spend a lot of time.

"Photo of product is misleading" 2009-04-15
By W. Callow (El Cerrito, CA United States)
The printer comes with only 1 print tray. It does not come with the bottom tray shown in the photograph of the product. The model shown in the photograph is actually the HP CP3525X. I called Amazon about it and they said that buried in the "see more technical information" link from the main product description pages it states there is an "optional" tray.

     "Poor Descreption of Product" 2010-09-25
    By SatelliteBill
When I was searching for a printer I was searching for a Portable Printer. I selected this printer because the price was right. But this was far from a portable printer as could be expected. What it is, is a small printer for someone like a college student with limited space, it is certainly not a portable printer. I am a sales person who needs a portable printer that I can take on the road with me. This is not that small.

"HP Deskjet 6940 printer has no factory Windows 7 driver, and TIPS...!" 2010-06-18
    By scottls1 (Kalispell, MT USA)
HP has not made a full featured factory driver for the 6940 (Complain to support, and maybe...?!).

Win 7 auto-installs a generic driver that works ok for basic printing "only".

This prints High Quality, and I'd definitely recommend getting it!

All-in-one printers, are a waste of money for most! I prefer a separate scanner, that have lasted me for years! Epson Perfection V30 Color Scanner (good cheap scanner, and use Office Mode!)

There was no Ink level bubble showing when I printed (works on my XP system/ with downloaded driver), and no toolbox to troubleshoot?

I made the mistake of calling HP outsourced support (5 times/ 3 hrs on phone!), and what a bunch of "clueless" techs!

One was Very rude. Three cut me off, and one called back at 1am in the morning.

I would NOT recommend letting them log directly onto your computer!

I finally got ahold of a 2yr tech, that showed me how print a test page that also shows ink levels showing on E/F bars in the middle (wastes some ink though! Grrr!)-

Press the Power button, & turn on printer.

Now hold down the Power button, and press/hold the Cancel button (X) for 5sec.

Release buttons, and test page will print.

    ~~

To REALLY save on using up their "Small" Color ink cartdrige (ALL HP printers use color ink, even on text printing!- Black cartdrige is much bigger!)-

Right click on the 6940... Printer Icon (Control Panel/Devices & Printers...).

    Printing preferences

    Color Tab

Tick- Print In Grayscale, and Black Print Cartdrige Only. Apply/OK (leave other color settings alone!).

    ~~

Note: If a blank page prints, or you want to "temp" print Color/WP envelopes (only saves setting for that print session, then auto-back to Black only)-

    File, Print, Preferences (reverse above)...

Note2!- If you are color printing photos..., that you want to last for more than 5yrs!?- DON'T buy inexpensive color refills, as they use Cheap Dye instead of HP's long-lasting pigment!

    ~

I also purchased their full replacement 3yr extended warranty, for 25 bucks (It's rare for a printer to last me 3yrs?)???

     "Good basic printer" 2009-12-02
    By G. Frank (Atlanta, GA)
The reason I selected this printer is for the fact that the paper is enclosed in a covered area rather than just being left out open on a paper-feed tray. This helps keep the paper from becoming damaged by having the edges bent which would cause paper jams or the paper becoming dirty. (you'd be amazed at how many people eat stuff while hanging around the office printer while waiting for their documents to print.)

    By Robert Bell
This is one quality "Photo" printer! It will handel heavy duty paper. Whats weird is it will also grab 2 or 3 sheets of regular paper. I have been amazed and people who I have givem them too think they are real photographs.

Also has special "ink" for doing just photo's.

"Save your money - DO NOT buy this "printer"" 2009-04-30
    By Geoff Southworth
I own a HP computer- so I thought when I needed a printer to also buy a HP - maybe they could talk to each other. Mistake #1. I purchased this "printer" in September 2008 and have since gotten to learn how to uninstall & reinstall the printer several times a week. The little light on the front burned out (after 3 months) and can not be fixed (HP support agreed). However, it is ONLY this little light that tells the machine you have cleared the paper jam, or that you have refilled the paper. So now, EVERY SINGLE TIME I need to refill the paper (because I forgot to load it daily) I get to uninstall & reinstall. If I get any type of jam, I get to uninstall & reinstall. If anything happens - including putting in new ink cartridges - I get to uninstall & reinstall. AND HP Support agrees this is my only option, other than buying another "printer." The machine does not recognize original HP ink cartridges, so the machine can never tell you the estimated ink level and frequently I get error messages of "not corect cartridge." And you can guess how I get to clear this message (uninstall again, reboot computer, reinstall printer).

Yes I have gotten quick at doing this, but still it is not an enjoyable task to having to do several times a week, because you bought this "printer!"

I am only waiting until I exhaust my inventory of those expensive ink cartridges until I dispose of this piece of trash. I hope Amazon prints this, although I admit I did not buy this thing from them.
