"Good Printer once I solved spped problem and found cheap ink" 2010-09-19
By Don Jolly (New Orleans)
I will echo another reviewers comments which helped me alot. "Printer Status Notification (hpmsn083.dll ) was a pain. On XP Machines (Vista machines okay), with a peer to peer network, it would result in very slow spooling and 100% CPU usage". I am running XP pro 32 bit SP3 on a 2.8 P4 with 2Gb ram and the spooling time was killing me. Not only was the copy of any document with graphics taking some times (as long as 20 minutes to have 2 pages print) but the computer was tied up with CPU running at 100% the whole time. Within seconds of sending a print you could hear both fans crank up to high speed due to the heat being generated by the CPU.

Here is the answer to this: Go to the START menu (lower left) then click on "printers and faxes", right mouse click on the printer name, then Go to and right mouse click on "properties", Go over to the Device Settings tab and disable the !@#$ Printer Status Notification in Properties. Dont ask me why but it works and now all is good, after much wasted time.

Other than that, printing B&W and color is good, There is paper curl, but apparantly there is a setting to diminish that. there are some weird light clunking sounds from printer but function is fine. I found after market non-HP toner for about $40 on Amazon. I have no complaints and it is much cheaper.

I highly recommended. It works excellently. The traditional good quality in HP. The only problem is when you start purchasing those so expensive replacement toner cartridges with the abusive price from HP.

Would not recommend for more than 4-5 people using this printer. We had 2 of these in our office with only about 12 people printing between the 2 of them and after a few months, both developed yellow and/or blue streaking on everything it printed it out.

"So Pleased that I Purchased a Second One" 2010-08-14
By Southern Magnate (Boca Raton, FL USA)
The quality of the text print is second to none! I do not use this for photos, however. It creates a very professional look -- one you cannot get with an ink-jet. Many documents I create have faint watermarks and the printing is phenomenal.

HP says their ink cartridges produce 2600 pages. This is baloney. Actually 500 is closer to the truth!

I use this printer often and the cartridges started to get costly so I switched to refurbished cartridges. For about $40 you can get cartridges from "Sophia Global." I've already been through about a dozen refurbished cartridges and I cannot tell the difference between them and the HP cartridges. The quality is 100% equal.

Sophia Global has better customer service than Office Depot or Staples (or HP for that matter).

The only gripe is that this printer is loud and goes through a self-cleaning several times a day -- so all of a sudden it starts the cleaning process out of nowhere and scares the daylights out of me.

 "Don't waste your money" 2010-07-11
By Sue Bechtel (Wauwatosa, WI United States)
Buyer beware. I received this printer from my company for my home office and after 5 months it completely stopped working due to an error code that I cannot reset on the printer. After installing a replacement ink cartridge you, too, are likely to receive an error code telling you to "remove shipping lock" from the replaced ink cartridge even if you have already removed the shipping lock (which is a plastic strip you pull out before installation). After a month of Googling a solution and many hours on the phone with HP...you guessed it...still sitting here with this non-functioning lemon. All you have to do is Google "remove shipping lock from HP CP 2025" and you will discover a plethora of bloggers complaining about this darn printer. I WOULD NEVER SPEND MY OWN MONEY ON THIS MACHINE. Thankfully my company paid for mine but the frustration level is the same and trust me...the level is HIGH!!! What a pain in the you-know-what to waste my time on a problem that HP is well aware of yet cannot seem to figure out how to repair. Take it from me and all of the other frustrated CP2025 owners and buy another brand. After reading the blogs I sense this problem crosses over to other HP models as well.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!! I have had this printer for 6 months and have already had to replace all the toner and the drum units but have only had less than 1000 prints!! This is not covered under warranty, I cannot return the product and I have already spent more in supplies than I did for the printer. Called brother for help, got redirected 3 times and then they sent me what was in the user manual. Useless customer service...even more useless product. DO NOT BUY!!!

"Does what it is supposed to!" 2010-09-10
By E. Kerby (Salt Lake City, UT)
I purchased this printer a few weeks ago, and I love it! My eyes teared up a little when I saw the demo test page because it is SO nice to finally have a printer that actually does what it is supposed to.

If you need something really really fancy, I don't know how this printer compares to really really fancy printers, BUT, for my home office, this printer is absolutely perfect.

It was VERY easy to set up this printer. The instructions that come with it are totally clear, and everything is straightforward. The diagrams and pictures make sense. It's the kind of thing where you skip steps here and there (because they are just common sense) but if you have any question or confusion, you can look at the instructions and you immediately understand. (Setup was slightly different for our PC and mac, but the instructions cover both types, and both were very easy.)

I didn't have a USB 2.0 cable anymore (whoops!), so I had to go buy one, because that doesn't come in the box.

Everything since setup has been a dream--we press print and it asks the things that printers are supposed to (like about size and DPI, etc), and then it PRINTS! (Our old printer used to be such a pain--it would gray out some options that I wanted sometimes, and it would pop up a bunch of boxes on my screen about ordering Lex***k stuff and registering (again!), and then it took forever to print and needed to realign all the time...none of that nonsense with our new Brother, though!)

I think the quality of the pages I've printed has been exceptional. The printer seems to go to sleep pretty quickly when I am not using it, but as soon as I am ready to print, it wakes right up and gets down to business. The printer prints quickly--it says 17 pages per minute. Now, I haven't counted how many pages per minute I actually get, but each page only takes a few seconds, so that has been quite convenient.

I don't really have anything negative to say about this printer. The features I most wish it had are:

- scan/copy (but obviously I knew it didn't do that when I bought it, and I much prefer this printer that PRINTS over the old "printer" that could scan/copy all right but did not print very well...)

- wireless printing (would be nice, but it's not a big deal, and they make them with wireless; you just have to pay more.)

- duplexing. (Oh well.)

My favorite features are:

- (nice) color printing!

- mac compatible!

- prints quickly!

In conclusion, I highly recommend this printer (especially for homes and small businesses)! It does what it is supposed to. For my small business it has been great so far, as it creates very professional looking documents.

"Print is ok, when it prints" 2010-08-27
By John Nordin (Minnesota, USA)
My first review was eaten by Amazon for some reason, reposting.

The print quality is quite nice and it prints quickly on 8.5x11 paper. Everything else about this printer is a nightmare of poor usability. Let's list the problems:

-- toner doesn't last very long

-- low toner message on computer doesn't tell you which one is low.

-- they don't make clear that you need to buy drums in addition to toner, just not as often.

-- printing costs are very expensive when you factor in toner and drums

-- display is old technology and is hard if not impossible to read unless you are looking at it head on in direct light

-- display is limited to one slowly scrolling line

-- when one toner gets low, printing just stops. Doesn't print faded, doesn't print bxw if color toner is out, it just up and totally quits.

-- menu of paper sizes is weird and doesn't include 4x6 or 5x8. List doesn't include the sizes, you have to look at the help for that.

-- single sheet feeder is needed for most non 8.5x11 sizes

-- single sheet feeder is prone to jams

-- paper path is complex, would be tough on thick paper, I think

"Great printer for the money." 2010-08-16
By J. Baker
I was on the market for a MacOSX compatible, network color printer and the Brother HL-3040CN was on a Clearance Sale at Staples for only $99.50. At that price I snapped it up. It is a nice printer so far. The software install and setup as a network printer was amazingly quick and easy. I like the idea of the toner on the printed pages not being water soluble. Toner cartridges were over $78 at Staples so I ordered a replacement Brother TN210BK toner cartridge from Amazon for approx. $48. The only feature I would add to this printer is the convenience of Auto Duplex printing. I will not miss the constant clogging of the printhead on the older color inkjet printer that this printer is a replacement for.

 "Great basic printer" 2010-08-08
By M. McShane (Virginia, United States)
I bought this printer for home use. I don't print often--just coupons or shipping labels or word documents mostly. I don't do any fancy printing jobs or photos so I can't comment on how it does with those. I wanted something that the ink wouldn't dry up in a few months and the Brother laser printer seemed like a good choice. So far, it has worked great. It is attached to my home network through ethernet, I turn it on when I want to print and off when I am done. Warm-up time is really quick and print quality is a-okay. Initially, it smelled slightly of burning or ink dust (I wasn't really sure which) but that has faded over the past few months. I am quite pleased with my printer.

"Great printer, for the price!" 2010-09-23
By SeanL.
This little printer is a powerhouse! It prints a photo in about a minute and, I have to say, the print quality is phenomenal! It's the closest thing to film print quality I've seen from a printer.

Setup is a snap. you open a cartridge, open the cartridge door on the side of the printer, take out the cleaning cartridge, remove the orange retaining clip from the back of the new cartridge, insert it into the printer and close the door. Now, you're ready to print. Just put your memory card into the printer, select the photos, cropping, effects or frames you want and press the "print" button. 60 seconds later, you have your print.

My only complaint is that the Photo effects, which are available on the printer, are not included in the software for your computer. Oh yeah, While you can hook up a USB cable to your Selphy and print from your computer, you can also use it completely independent of a computer.

"Neat Little Photo Printer and Easy to Use" 2010-07-11
By clawdette
I received the Selphy ES40 as a birthday gift after several hints. It took a bit of doing to gather everything together to make it work as there was no paper included with the printer. The clerk at Best Buy sold the gift giver the wrong type of photo paper and this was discovered only after the box of paper was opened and BB would not take it back. TAKE NOTE ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THIS PRINTER: the Canon Easy Photo Pack (E-P100/Ink & Paper)that is needed to use in this printer is available only ON LINE through Amazon or directly from Canon. Plan ahead before you purchase it to make sure you can get the correct photo pack and you will then get carried away once you start printing your pics.

One drawback is that if you plan to print from an xD-picture card, you will need an adapter for this (instructions in the guide state this is "commercially available"), but I have NOT been able to find this adapter anywhere on line or at any photo store I've contacted or visited. This has been my biggest disappointment with this printer as one of my cameras uses this type picture card and I'm not able to print those pictures without the adapter. It seems to me that Canon should include this adapter with the printer.

This isn't my first Selphy but I like it better than my previous ones. I do a lot of traveling and I love the way this one is compact. I also prefer the way the cartridge is set up with ink and paper instead of being separated n the other version I had, less to keep track of when I'm out and about.

 "BUYER BEWARE" 2010-09-30
By LexmarkSucks
Don't waste your money on this POS. Bells and whistles are great...IF THEY WORK!

This thing uses ink even when you're not printing. The heads dry up almost daily and the process to clean them uses a lot of your ink. You will exceed the cost of the printer the first time you have to buy ink...which is after about 20 pages. Then, if you get low or run out of ONE color, you are forced to replace it before you can print with ANY of the other colors (full or not). For example, my yellow ink is low so it tells me that the printer will not work at all until I replace the yellow. How inconvenient is that?

The ink cartridges are individual so this crap was designed-in to the product to force you to buy their over-priced ink you may not want or need. Technical support was worthless because they know I discovered their scam.

Automatic feeder? WORTHLESS with less than 10 pages. They all go in at once.

Scanner? Works OK for one page but the feeder is worthless.

Bottom line? I'll never buy a Lexmark product based solely on the fact that I can't print with black ink only when another color is low or empty. That's a BS marketing scam or else Lexmark is not interested in return customers.

 "Lexmark makes quality printers!" 2010-09-22
By S. Speer (Texas)
I have been using the Lexmark Interpret S405 for two months now and I love it! I upgraded from another Lexmark all-in-one that I had for five years. The old Lexmark served me well through college but at the end of its run, it started having technical problems and would only print/copy/scan when it was feeling like it. I thought five years from a printer was definitely good quality so I wanted to stay with Lexmark. I had heard about how inkjet printers were better quality and you would save money on ink. I needed an all-in-one since I would be using it through graduate school. This printer was under $100 and seemed to fit all of my needs with a few bonuses. The wireless feature is splendid! Yes, when I first set it up on my computer it did not want to work smoothly, so I went to Lexmark's website and updated all of the drivers. This took about 10 minutes and the wireless network has worked perfectly ever since then. One thing I have learned over the years is that as long as you update your drivers regularly, most electronic issues can be fixed quite easily. I have printed out over 200 papers since I first received the printer with the ink cartridges included and am just now receiving a warning that the black ink is getting low. I think that is decent for black ink. The previous Lexmark printer I had cost about the same for ink. Every two or three months I would need to replace the black ink for around $25 and every four to five months I would need to replace the color ink for around $30. The color ink is still over halfway full on all colors and I have printed out more than fifteen pictures in the past month. I like their recycle inkjet cartridge return program too. You can have a postage paid return bag sent to your home and then you can ship the empty cartridge to Lexmark to help keep the cartridges from harming the environment. I know that ink is expensive and I don't like that it is that high in cost, but I am pleased with the features and quality of this printer and I hope it lasts five years, just like my first Lexmark printer did!

 "best AIO value" 2010-09-16
By Gil
This is a 4 in one device i.e. it includes fax as well (typically AIO will be printer/scanner/copier only).

I had to buy a printer to use at home but also for work (I work mostly from home) but still I wanted to spend as little as I can because I don't really use the printer that heavily or need extreme quality.

My requirements were:

* a network printer that I can easily share

* 4 in one

* low price

* reasonable quality

the s405 exceeded my expectations on every one of my requirements and added some more:

* wireless sharing works great with very simple setup

* price is very attractive

* print quality is excellent in both documents and photos

It is noticeable that Lexmark have put a lot of thought into the setup process. They have made a huge effort for the setup to be as easy as possible and for the most part it worked. There are still some minor 'glitches' but mainly there is no issue. Note that the setup process is PER PC i.e. you run it again for each computer you need to connect and select the way you want THIS computer to connect (usb or wireless)

there is a nice power saving feature - the printer automatically goes into 'sleep mode' which is really useful (assuming it really saves power)

the top paper loader is a bit too sensitive. it often reports 'paper overfeeding' etc. and is really my only problem with this printer however it is minor as well. I couldn't get the loader to work with scans which is a major problem and this is why i haven't gave it full 5/5 for features.

scanning however works great and there are plenty of options for scanning: PDF, mail, photo, split photos etc. - very useful.

overall this is a great AIO for a really low price. Good job Lexmark!

 "Great All Around Printer" 2010-09-08
By Timothy Carlisle
The Lexmark Interpret S405 is a great all around printer for your home and small business needs. I recently purchased this printer to upgrade from an older model.

The printer is not a 5 star printer, but what can you expect for around $100-$125. It prints beautiful pictures, has a decent page rate, and scans are great. The setup was easy. Yes, the installation does take time, but it is easy to use, even for a beginner. I was able to setup my entire system to my D-Link Router utilizing WPS. After that, I merely needed to install their software on my desktop and two laptops and I could print, scan (to the computer I wanted, very helpful), and copy. I personally have not used the Fax system for this printer.

The only issues I have run into were small and only happened once or twice. Initially, the printer required me to reinstall the printer head, as it was not seated correctly, and it had me clean the head. This could have been my error, I am not sure. The Automatic Document Feed for scanning or copying had some issues when I first purchased my printer. I was using 20lb multipurpose paper. Once I switched to 24lb paper, I had no more issues of double feeding. I only have had one paper jam in the ADF using 20 pages of 20lb paper, scanning to my computer. It has a pop up door that will pop up for easy access, in the event of a paper jam.

Overall a great buy, and I am very happy with it. If you are looking for excellent performance and quality, spend more money and get a higher end printer. However, if you are looking for a well priced all in one printer for your home or home office, look no further than this printer.

Hope this helps,

-Tim

I purchased the S405 several months ago and had problems from the get go. Several days after setting it up my computer started locking up when turning my computer on. After disconnecting the Lexmark all went well. Messing with it for several hours finally found the issue. I resolved the problem by inserting and removing a memory stick in the reader slot which cleared the problem up. Also like other reviewers the Ink Carts only lasted about 25 pages or less. The print cartridges are housed in a cradle that holds the individual print tanks and currently every Cartridge Refill Store are unable to refill and reset the cradle so you have to buy new. Other then these major problems the printer does all that is requested.

I am totally frustrated with this new printer. After reading reviews, seeing prices, etc., ordered. Size, compactness is great, but it goes to sleep after EACH job, which means it has to either be turned off and back on, or unplugged and replugged. Probably spent close to an hour w/Samsung yesterday, and they finally admitted they are not Mac savvy; mostly pc trained. So why do they claim Mac compatibility? I don't really want to send this back; just want it to work, and would like to find a solution. At that point, would willingly change rating from 1 star.

"Great Printer if you don't use its prime feature--"Wireless."" 2010-09-23
By Christopher Martens (Crestline, CA United States)
I received this printer about three weeks ago. It was very easy to setup using a network connection. And once I "locked down" the IP Address my computers could always find it on the network. Great prints, very quiet and virtually silent in sleep mode.

But in "wireless" mode, the printer kept disappearing. I set it up on the network cable three times each using conventional and "ad hoc" architectures, and each time it would work for a while then stop. After repeated restarts and unpluging the power overnight, it would still not stay connected. Then, for no reason at all, it would suddenly print two days worth of qued jobs. I called Samsung and was told that they had never had anything like this happen before. And, naturally, since he was on the phone, the printer begin to work perfectly. I was then told, "If it happens again, call us and we will replace the unit. Obviously, something is very wrong with your printer."

I called Samsung Customer Service again today. Now I am being told this is, "a known issue." Yes, of course, it is because I called two weeks ago. Now Samsung Customer Service (if that is their real name) is telling me I have to carry the unit in to a repair shop more than 60 miles away. When I pointed this out the serviceman, he argues with me and tells me it's only 19 miles away according to his "database." Then I asked about the repair, his "database" didn't have the answer. When I asked if there was a new firmware upgrade, he assured me that I was incapable of doing such a thing on my own. I pointed out that their own software, running on my computer, automatically downloads and installs firmware updates (and it had done so upon first setup). Never mind the fact I've been doing this kind of work since 1983 and have a degree in the field.

In any case, I was lucking to still be able to return this item.

I had been considering buying Samsung's 55 inch LED 3D TV later this year when the 3D Movies were available (I already have their 3D Blu-Ray Player), but if this is any example of their customer service, then I need to rethink the whole thing.

 "Print paper selection" 2010-09-23
By Joseph F. Talluto (Richmond, VA)
The frustrating problem with this printer is that it does not allow the program software (e.g. Publisher)to select the type of paper to be printed. If you are printing an envelope, you must remember to go back to the printer page setup and select envelope. Otherwise the printer will print the envelope as though it was using letter type paper. And the printer remembers the last paper you used, so if you forget to change envelope to letter, your document will be printed as though you are using an envelope. Very, very frustrating. If they don't change the software this will be the last Samsung printer I purchase. Printer anyone?????Samsung ML-2525W Wireless Mono Laser Printer

"Poor Reliability - Cheap for a reson" 2010-09-10
By T. Pinkney (Modesto, CA USA)
Bought several of these for use in classrooms at work. They have always malfunctioned, all their power buttons get stuck. One gave up the ghost after 7 months. Another always reads that it has no paper in the tray when it is full. The third says it has bad cartridges. HP refuses to do anything as their warranty is only for 90 days on these printers. We still have 932c going but brand new printers fail in months! Sad. Bought Canon replacements and haven't looked back.

"This printer is too temperamental for standard print needs" 2010-08-20
By A. Stromberg
I was thrilled to receive this printer for free when I purchased my new laptop computer 6 months ago; at least I was thrilled for a week or so. After that I realized that it was going to be a high maintenance pain in the neck. Seriously, printers have a very simple job these days, the last generation laser printer was the most reliable printer I've ever used (also an HP product), so I figured that this was going to be a safe bet. To my surprise, the HP Deskjet D2680 is extremely buggy and is difficult to manage.

I am currently working my printer from a HP laptop computer running Windows 7, so theoretically I should have a nice match; hp printer and hp computer. Sadly the performance of the printer has not benefitted from keeping it all in the family. I have real trouble if I utilize a refilled ink cartridge (in an effort to cut costs) and the printer simply refuses to print. I also receive errors when inserting good print cartridges, not just refilled ones. Nothing has broken to this point, but the interaction with the computer and the temperamental behavior with cartridges grinds progress to a halt and makes the printer worthless. Not worth the effort to get it going. Avoid this product if it is still on the market when you are shopping for a simple printer.

"I got it for free and I still paid too much" 2010-05-14
By BluntGirl (Newark, CA, US)
This is the worst printer I have ever owned. The power switch was stuck on when I took it out of the box, and it never got unstuck. It died after only two and half months of fault-filled light duty service, having printed less than 100 pages for me. The best thing I can say about it was that it was free with the purchase of a Windows 7 PC and monitor package. However, I now think the retailer should have paid me for taking it out of their store.

 "Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!" 2010-04-19
By JK (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA USA)
Just bought the HP Deskjet D2680 a couple days ago. Biggest problem - loading the software (HP driver) killed my Canoscan scanner. After I loaded the HP software and subsequently tried to use my scanner, I got the message back "Cannot communicate with scanner" and another message saying that "There is a TWAIN error, maybe the scanner is not connected." Scanner would not work. Removed the HP software, reloaded the scanner software, and the scanner worked again. Reloaded the HP driver - scanner died again!!! Other D2680 problems - prints slightly off-center, both vertically and horizontally on standard paper, and the ink goes "bye-bye" quickly. I loved my previous HP inkjet printer (D5740). It was a workhorse that served me well for 4 years. The D2680 is a huge disappointment. Unusable. It's going back into the box and back to the store.

"not worth the free bundle price" 2010-04-18
By H. Crawford
This printer came in a bundled package from best buy. Nothing but problems since installing. The installation software hung up the computer. All of the lights keep blinking suggesting a "problem". Installed most current drivers from the HP site. Problem persisted. The HP support site instructs me to unplug the printer, waits 60 seconds and replug?? Tried this several times and the problem persists. Will try to return this lemon.

Update: returned/exchanged printer. New printer worked fine for the first two print jobs. Then the printer failed to print again. I would advise not to purchase this printer.

"Short term - great; long term - no" 2010-09-18
By Lisa S (NH, USA)
We bought this exactly two years ago. It has been a great little home printer. I print about one page/day on average. It does use a fair amount of ink, but a printer is only an ink delivery system, right? Two weeks ago I would have given this model 4 1/2 stars. However....I turned it on one day and it simply would not print and the paper would feed halfway through and stop. My husband and I put probably four hours into it trying to figure it out. We tried everything and between us we are pretty good figurers. The HP Solution Center that comes with the software seemed to answer everything but our situation. Finally, I had time to call HP's 800-number. I was quite pleased to get a live person very quickly. But then I realized her English knowledge was very limited and who knows what country she was in. She asked me if I had tried about three very minor things, which I had. Then without going particularly deep into "here's what you can try to fix it," her training had obviously told her to stop there and give me this great answer: we'll give you a discount on this particular new model and it will only cost you $80 (later I saw Amazon sold the same thing for $55). I told her I really like the printer and want to get it fixed. It boils down to this....if it is out of warranty, it goes to the dump. I told her how environmentally irresponsible it is of HP to operate this way. I doubt she understood me because she only kept repeating the $80 offer. I told her she had done a good job, but I was very unimpressed with HP. My husband pulled the D4360 apart more since we had nothing to lose and found broken plastic gears. It is toast. So short-term, it's a good printer; long-term, America will have a lot of printers in its landfills.

We can't buy enough of these printers! We are using 2 and have 2 on the shelf for back up, and my husband just asked me to order 2 more... just in case. We are simple souls and don't want all the bells and whistles. Fancy printers die so quickly; been there, done that. This workhorse just keeps on printing. If you want a simple printer for word processing, spreadsheet, and the internet, this is the Rock Star! Look elsewhere for the frustration of top of the line models. And, talk about cheap!!

"Too much software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Caused me a service call!!" 2010-03-28
By T. Stehr (Bethlehem, PA USA)
Well, I am mostly pleased with the printing although the "draft" mode produces funky looking (almost like italics)lines of print interspersed throughout the documents. The printer is also rather finicky with regard to feeding paper. The paper which I was using successfully in my old HP and Canon printers will not feed in the D4360; fortunately I had a pack of HP paper which feeds very well. The ink supply does seem to be going down rather quickly; although I haven't really printed enough sheets to comment on ink usage.

Now for my BIG complaint. About 4 weeks after I installed my HP D4360, my computer slowed to a crawl, and then it would not allow me to do anything. I could not open my Word or Excel documents nor access email. Since the printer had been installed 4 weeks before, I never suspected it as the cause of the problem. I hired a computer service man to find out what was causing my problem. After finding out that my temp register had over 32,000 files, we deleted them; my computer started working again. But where did they come from? The temp register started filling up again!! ...16,000 files in a few hours! To make a long story longer, we discovered an HP file (hpqtra08.exe) constantly running in the background ..... creating temp files. I called HP tech support, and they told me I could uninstall the HP Digital Imaging software, and that would get rid of hpqtra08. I was told that this software was for the scanner in an all-in-one printer. They had no good reason as to why HP downloaded this software for my D4360 since it has no scanner. Nor did they seem inclined to offer me anything to help defray the cost of a service call which cost more than the printer. Well, now I got that off my chest!

If you do buy a HP D4360 and start having computer problems, I hope this is helpful. HP D4360 DeskJet Printer

"First one wouldnt print black" 2010-08-23
By Gina Gray (Prunedale, CA United States)
Got one from costco. Test page wouldn't print black, so called CS & was sent a new one (they needed a credit card to send you a second one, no charges have appeared as long as you send them the old one within 3 days of getting the new one).

Anyway, the new one is working fine so far. Seems to be an OK printer, if you can deal with the hassle of possibly getting a printer with issues. Do like the print quality, cost for cartridges.

"ZERO stars for ZERO customer service!" 2010-07-30
By Isuzan (Midwest)
Well, give it up for another company that sent it's customer service people jobs overseas - they can only read from a script and nothing else. I purchased this printer at Staples yesterday; got a great deal on it (SO I THOUGHT) 'cause they were clearancing them out for the newer model. I even looked at Amazon reviews prior to purchasing it. Some were so stellar I thought, "Hey, I have to give this a try!" but the bad ones really made me nervous. Guess I should've gone with my gut.

I happily unpacked it today, put the cartridges in, and it printed out a perfect page. HOORAY! NOT SO FAST THERE 'PARDNER...I shouted in jubilation far too quickly. Immediately it went into convulsions (that machine gun sound) and gave me the dreaded error, "Unable to Init. AF". I went through all the troubleshooting online and called their "Customer service" center (and I use this term loosely). He said it definately needed to be replaced, and would be happy to assist.

He said that he'd need a credit card to put a $50 hold on my credit card "In case the original machine is not returned". WHAT? I said, "I don't have a credit card". My only other two options were to take it to service center (this thing is HEAVY...I should not have to lug it an hour away to get it repaired - oh, and wait at least a week); or I could pay to insure it and send it back to Brother at my OWN EXPENSE.

After hours of this nonsense (trying to get a non-working new printer to work) and dealing with non-English speaking individuals who don't understand the nuances of the English language, I'm perturbed and will NEVER recommend or purchase a Brother product again. I will find someone who can give me a credit card so this can be exchanged and be done with it; but will spread the word that this company is awful to do business with - and that this product should be avoided at all costs. Hopefully the replacement works; I'll update this later if it does not.

I purchased one other Brother printer this year - through Amazon, and had to send it back as it also have untold errors. Does Mickey Mouse put these things together?

Is there a number less than ZERO I could give this manufacturer and product? Sure wish there was!

I am very impressed at the longevity of the ink cartridges of this machine, bought this at the end of April this year have run off at least 200 plus copy's and have not had to replace the ink cartridges yet. On my Lexmark 7100 I would have done a replacement twice by now. What a difference and a pleasure to have this machine it has almost paid for itself just in a few months and I have years of warranty left and I bought two sets of ink replacements with it. I am probably set for at least the rest of this year and maybe to the anniversary of me buying it next year, it was easy to set up, its easy to use and best of all my wife likes it and has told me thank you for buying it; and after 25yrs of marriage I did something right thanks "Brother" you made it possible.

Its is worth every penny you pay for it. Thanks Amazon for bringing us these high quality products and the extended warranty's that are offered it really makes the purchases a even better deal.

 "Very user unfriendly" 2010-06-11
By freeseek
I setup this printer yesterday in my lab. I was very surprised at first that there was no mention of where the network cable needs to be inserted. Basically you have to open the printer first. I have no idea why they decided to make it so complicated. Setting the printer up is overall a bit of a pain. For some reasons there is no web server working on it, though port 80 seems to be open. The little menu is very counterintuitive as it is not clear what you have to do to go back through the menus. The last straw came today when the printer refused to work, giving the only message "unable to print 30". There is no clue given about what this means and about what to do. Reading on the internet, it seems something might have got stuck. Not bad since we printed something like 5 pages before this happened. But what really angers me is that there is no explanation given for the error, just a useless number. The printer is clearly not thought with the user in mind. Be prepared to waste a lot of your time. I hope my lab will be able to return it.

I got the printer and it was easy to set up on our three computers. I love the 11 x 17 printing. The only problem I have had is that under the normal quality setting, black is more a very dark grey. Under the fine quality setting, the black is black. I order remanufactured cartridges from [...] for about $2.50 each. It is a big printer but it is a great printer.

 "High Tech Robbery" 2010-09-09
By sincerely_pissed
Where do I even start? I guess I should say the very first print it made was acceptable, and that it still looks good sitting, worthless, on the shelf one month and 15 prints after purchase. I am about $700 into the printer, ink and paper, and I do not have a single viable print to show for it. By the time I got the color settings right, it was out of blue ink, and the horrible part is, when you replace one cartridge, it goes through a "cleaning" that sprays out so much ink it might empty another cartridge. Then you replace that and they all lose more ink. I had to replace 3 inks in a row without printing anything. The worst part is the smart-chips and HORRENDOUS availability of the ink. This isn't the place to point out that the inks are necessarily overpriced because thats Epson's business model, but I do want to complain that these specific inks are VERY hard to come by. I live in Oakland, and having called stores in Oakland, San Fransisco, and San Jose as well as calling and asking Epson where the ink is, I had to order it online. Then I plugged the ink in, and the "smart-chip" said it was already empty. So it takes 2 days to get ink, and there is a part in them that can come broken, the printer runs out of ink without even printing, and whats worse I'm 15 prints in and there is SEVERE banding already. I want to wrap this all up by saying that after weeks of effort, countless phone calls, hundreds of dollars, trolling many forums, worrying, fretting, and paying a ton of overnight shipping the only prints I was able to sell at the art fair I bought this thing for I had to print off a 5yr old HP!! Never buy Epson. Stop being fooled by the pretty boxes and lies about high print quality.

Before you think another moment about buying this go to youtube and look up things like "epson scam" "epson ink" "smart chip" and just enjoy an evening of irate consumers. It should also help you to know that [...] redirects to epson - as if they are expecting their cheated customers to complain.

"*** REGRETTED UPGRADING PRINTERS: NOT GOOD FOR PROFESSIONALS***" 2010-08-06
By Viridiana Serrano (Fontana, CA United States)
I replaced my Epson 1400 printer, with the Epson R1900. Believe it, or not, the Epson R1900 had worst printing quality than the Epson 1400.

Another important fault, was that the R1900 colors were too far off from screen colors (even after monitor calibration). I'd always used the Epson 1400 to print from Lightroom with "off color correction", and I never had major color issues. BUT, the Epson R1900 with it's Orange/Red Ink, totally blew off "non-color correction" printing. The Epson Standard, Vivid, and Photo Enhance settings, distort color by far too much also. My photo teacher would freak ouk by the Red, Magenta, and Yellow tones all the prints get.

To all professionals, and college photo students: STAY AWAY. I sent it back.

 "Don't buy Epson!" 2010-07-27
By Bengal Siberian (The Cold, Alaska)
Bought this a year and a half ago and wasn't even able to insert ink cartridges. Amazon replaced machine promptly (2 thumbs up!) and the second printer worked fine for the first 20 13x19 prints I printed, although it is a voracious ink sucker! I let it sit (in the box, fully protected from dust, temperature, sun etc.) a couple of months between art shows and was told by fellow photographers that this "kills" it. When I started it up to print large format prints again, t took twelve minutes to pull in the paper. Once the prints came out, they were bent twice and had black ink smears on the edges and lines across the whole paper. In several attempts to clean the head and realign everything I had to replace every color cartridge once, and the gloss twice. The end result was still dissatisfactory (still lines and ink spots across the whole print) and I ended up having to outsource the whole print job. If you don't use this printer every day, don't buy it. If you don't want to spend a fortune on ink, don't buy it.
