 "High Tech Robbery" 2010-09-09
By sincerely_pissed
Where do I even start? I guess I should say the very first print it made was acceptable, and that it still looks good sitting, worthless, on the shelf one month and 15 prints after purchase. I am about $700 into the printer, ink and paper, and I do not have a single viable print to show for it. By the time I got the color settings right, it was out of blue ink, and the horrible part is, when you replace one cartridge, it goes through a "cleaning" that sprays out so much ink it might empty another cartridge. Then you replace that and they all lose more ink. I had to replace 3 inks in a row without printing anything. The worst part is the smart-chips and HORRENDOUS availability of the ink. This isn't the place to point out that the inks are necessarily overpriced because thats Epson's business model, but I do want to complain that these specific inks are VERY hard to come by. I live in Oakland, and having called stores in Oakland, San Fransisco, and San Jose as well as calling and asking Epson where the ink is, I had to order it online. Then I plugged the ink in, and the "smart-chip" said it was already empty. So it takes 2 days to get ink, and there is a part in them that can come broken, the printer runs out of ink without even printing, and whats worse I'm 15 prints in and there is SEVERE banding already. I want to wrap this all up by saying that after weeks of effort, countless phone calls, hundreds of dollars, trolling many forums, worrying, fretting, and paying a ton of overnight shipping the only prints I was able to sell at the art fair I bought this thing for I had to print off a 5yr old HP!! Never buy Epson. Stop being fooled by the pretty boxes and lies about high print quality.

Before you think another moment about buying this go to youtube and look up things like "epson scam" "epson ink" "smart chip" and just enjoy an evening of irate consumers. It should also help you to know that [...] redirects to epson - as if they are expecting their cheated customers to complain.

"*** REGRETTED UPGRADING PRINTERS: NOT GOOD FOR PROFESSIONALS***" 2010-08-06
By Viridiana Serrano (Fontana, CA United States)
I replaced my Epson 1400 printer, with the Epson R1900. Believe it, or not, the Epson R1900 had worst printing quality than the Epson 1400.

Another important fault, was that the R1900 colors were too far off from screen colors (even after monitor calibration). I'd always used the Epson 1400 to print from Lightroom with "off color correction", and I never had major color issues. BUT, the Epson R1900 with it's Orange/Red Ink, totally blew off "non-color correction" printing. The Epson Standard, Vivid, and Photo Enhance settings, distort color by far too much also. My photo teacher would freak ouk by the Red, Magenta, and Yellow tones all the prints get.

To all professionals, and college photo students: STAY AWAY. I sent it back.

 "Don't buy Epson!" 2010-07-27
By Bengal Siberian (The Cold, Alaska)
Bought this a year and a half ago and wasn't even able to insert ink cartridges. Amazon replaced machine promptly (2 thumbs up!) and the second printer worked fine for the first 20 13x19 prints I printed, although it is a voracious ink sucker! I let it sit (in the box, fully protected from dust, temperature, sun etc.) a couple of months between art shows and was told by fellow photographers that this "kills" it. When I started it up to print large format prints again, t took twelve minutes to pull in the paper. Once the prints came out, they were bent twice and had black ink smears on the edges and lines across the whole paper. In several attempts to clean the head and realign everything I had to replace every color cartridge once, and the gloss twice. The end result was still dissatisfactory (still lines and ink spots across the whole print) and I ended up having to outsource the whole print job. If you don't use this printer every day, don't buy it. If you don't want to spend a fortune on ink, don't buy it.

 "Works great at first...." 2010-08-16
By jdadub (USA)
We purchased this printer to print mostly simple documents at home. I had no problems setting the printer up on our home wifi network. However, when it was time to change the ink everything went down hill. The first time we changed the ink it would print only half of the document and if it printed the entire document it was faint crooked. After cleaning the print nozzles and doing an alignment a 1000 times with no success I gave up and unplugged it for a week. When I plugged it back up it started working fine.

We installed new ink last week and now all we get is blank documents. We have went through all the cleaning and alignment with no luck.

The ink is expensive and you use it up quickly even if you print in mostly black and white.

One last thing if you run out of 1 color and every other is still full, the printer will not let you print.

"Nice Wireless Printer - Good ROI" 2010-08-09
By D. Young (Wilmington, NC USA)
Okay...let's get this out of the way. Printers today are, well...consumable. Yep. You read that right. They're basically consumable, disposable loss-leaders designed for 1 sole purpose, and it isn't printing. It's to sell overpriced, under-performing ink to the masses.

As a former HP user, I was tired of purchasing over-priced ink for printers who's use-life was less than 2 years. Coupled with the fact that it seems that every time a new operating system comes out, HP "conveniently" drops support for anything older than 1 year...forcing you to purchase another printer. So, deciding I'd had enough of HP, I went shopping around, and ultimately settled on this printer.

The PRO's:

-----------------

It's a network printer offering Wireless-G compatibility right out of the box! That's great for me, given that I have 5 wired / wireless networked machines at home and I was tired of having to always leave 1 machine on in order to print items.

Setup was a breeze...my 10 year old can do it. Just run the setup utility and follow the directions. Easy-peasy.

Document printing is fast and of better-than-average quality, especially when printing on good stock. Also prints well on glossy brochure stock, though I wouldn't call this a photo printer by any stretch...but then, that's not really what it's for.

Uses 4 separate ink cartridges, so you don't have to shell out $40 when 1 color runs out, which is nice.

Color document printing is great, and speedy.

The CON's:

-----------------

Not the most efficient use of ink. The cartridges are rather small by capacity, and if you want the extended capacity cartridges, forget about buying locally. The larger capacity cartridges are only available online from Epson.

Not for printing color photographs. You're better off uploading your prints to a local Walgreens or AdoramaPix. It's okay for the occasional snapshot print, or school project perhaps...but for printing photos for your albums...forget it. An online printing service is just going to give you better quality prints for less money. Period.

Final Thoughts:

-----------------

Hey, it's a network printer that offers both Cat-5 and Wireless connections, has easy setup, and does very well printing black / white + color documents. If that's all you're looking for, then this is the printer for you. I've been using it for over a year, and it's been a solid performer. It's not for real heavy use, but for the home office, it should more than suffice.

If you want something that can print photographic-quality prints...I suggest you look elsewhere. You're in the wrong price-point for that kind of color-printing accuracy.

"In less than 6 months I now have a new paperweight" 2010-07-13
By Katherine N. Rocha (California, USA)
I bought this printer because the reviews at the time were good, it was small, print quality was decent, and it was relatively cheep. Here's the problem. There is a manufacturing flaw. The chips inside the printer will often think that your ink cartriges are empty when they are not, think they are full when they are empty, and will not register when you have place a new cartrige in the slot. I have spent over $200 in buying cartriges that I thought were bad only to find that the problem was the printer itself.

Buyer Beware. Look into this problem before you consider buying. The cheep price is not worth what you will waste in ink.

"worst printer or any device I ever bought" 2010-06-11
By TJ LA (Inglewood)
I bought this printer in a hurry, my old printer was so old and all my other recent purchases reflected the fast pace of improvement across the board of features in scanners, cameras, etc.

The worst thing about this piece of crap is it takes awhile to see all the problems, so it's too late to take it back. After a couple months:

Constant ink clogs

Constant paper jams

Even when it doesn't jam the image is often tilted, looks unprofessional

Lines appear in photos

Constant head cleanings use up tons of expensive ink

A cartridge stops working but printer doesn't know it - no way to change it unlike every other printer I've owned until you deplete another cartridge.

First printer i ever owned that won't print transparencies??!! I guess making their ink proprietary was a higher priority than printing on film - a-holes!

No more Epson for me. I bet the CEO cut quality and showed a profit on paper and got a big bonus. Then sales drop and he gets fired with a multi-million dollar golden parachute. Go team America!

"HATE IT with a seething passion! BUYER BEWARE!" 2010-08-23
By D. Sullivan (California)
I purchased the Epson joyfully to replace a HP model that just stopped printing. I was excited to get back with epson as I had a great experience with them back in the late 90's. BOY WAS THAT A DISAPPOINTMENT.

I my personal option Epson is NOT the company that I once loved and recommend. I had issues with the machine and had to call their help line. I was met with rude, condescending employees who seemed to know significantly less than even the average user.

Frustrated, I went to email for the support. After getting 5 "canned response" emails (ie: had nothing to do with my specific problem), I finally got a response from a person. Their generic response was "that is not a Epson supported product". So I asked them, do you SELL labels? They said No. SOoooo LABELS are NOT supported? Absolutely asinine in this day in age!!!! They support NOTHING unless they make it (at an inflated rate, to milk you for as much money as possible! [see ink usage in cons]).

I could not return it because it was past my 30 days so I was stuck with it. Needless to say, the machine did not get better with age. I loath Epson with a passion after this experience.

PROS:

Scans nicely, quickly and software recognizes the media fairly well.

Setup fast and easy from out of the box

Pictures turn out decent (but not amazing)

CONS:

The machine eats ink like a starving animal, calling for refills before the wells are remotely dry.

Software engineered to deduct from ink quantity without actually using any.

Ink refills are EXPENSIVE and do not last (and I am a occasional printer).

VERY LITTLE is supported in the software, INCLUDING LABELS

The "draft" mode is a joke. It prints so light you can barely see it.

You can not adjust the ink settings in any mode, just select their "pre-existing" choices (IE: ink suckers)

Little things you may have taken for granted from other printer manufactures will be missing in the software

Paper gets stuck ALL THE TIME

Will not be able to print on thicker card-stock or labels unless making it as an "envelope" otherwise you must print as a "picture" on photo paper - in high quality photo mode (more ink!). Still sticks 1/2 the time.

I had the machine for a year and 1/2 - it *just* died. I did a happy dance!!! I was SO HAPPY to throw this thing in the trash!! BUYER BEWARE!

 "Waste of ink." 2010-08-15
By malibukid22
I am using this 3-in-1 inkjet with my main desktop computer running Ubuntu linux. All functions work fine, except scanner features are extremely limited. Printer looks attractive and has nice features. But, ink cost and the fact that it won't print anything if even one of the 4 cartridges is getting low on ink, makes this printer worthless. The printer is being thrown out, which is such a waste, but it isn't worth buying a new set of ink cartridges for it.

"Incredibly cheap construction, falling apart after only a few months of use" 2010-08-09
By Gunnar S. Storms (Los Angeles, CA United States)
I've owned the Epson Stylus NX415 for around 4 months after buying it to replace an aging HP printer I had. All I can say is that I will most likely never buy another Epson product again after experiencing the horrendous quality of this printer.

See that little flip-up screen on the left side of the printer? While attempting to fold it up it broke off, tearing out an electronic ribbon with it. This was definitely not due to any rough handling on my part, but simply due to the hinge being of extremely low quality.

Also, the slide-out tray that holds the printed pages also broke off after very gently extending it. I want to stress that none of these faults was due to rough handling or extensive use on my part. This printer sat on my desk almost untouched and only occasionally used, and yes it was brand new when I bought it. There is no explanation for it to be falling apart so easily other than it being of cheap construction.

I've had zero problems or broken parts with the HP printer that I previously used for 5 years before replacing it with this piece of junk.

Also, it goes through ink cartridges extremely fast and the cartridges are expensive (of course). In addition, you also cannot print pages if any ink cartridge is empty, even if the color isn't required for what you're trying to print. For example, you cannot print a black and white page if the cyan cartridge is empty, even if you have a full black cartridge. It's nothing but another tactic they use to force you to buy their over-priced cartridges.

The Epson Workforce 1100 is great. It's a handsome piece of equipment, too - it may take up a good amount of space, but it looks great doing it! Both color and black & white prints come out quickly and quietly.

The only downside to this printer is the size of the ink cartridges. I only use the printer for specific projects, so my use is more as a secondary printer and the small ink cartridges are no big problem for me.

Setup was a breeze and it performs spectacularly within my installation of Windows 7 Professional. I really enjoy my wide format printer much more than I had originally anticipated...flowcharts are much nicer blown up on a 13" x 19" sheet than on the typical 8.5" x 11" - I absolutely love it!

I'll never buy an Epson again. I'm so tired of all the noise, shaking, clogged inkjets, slow startup, running the cleaning cycles and using up ink doing so, wonky color, CONSTANT missfeeds on paper etc. I've had this one about three months, and think I'll just put it out on the curb. It's not worth my time to deal with it anymore. Maybe it's just not meant to work with a mac. (I've had printers of one sort or another for 15 years. This one is the worse. Maybe they're all just loss leaders for cartridge sales.)

If you use Windows 7 the Workforce 1100 printer will install just fine with Epson's Window 7 compatible driver. Then after a week or two it will cease to function. You will then contact Epson Support, they tell you your printer doesn't print anymore because of Microsoft issues.  "They've almost got perfect" 2010-07-27
By Dave Campbell (Hudson Valley)
I almost felt bad not rating this printer at 5 stars, but it does have a couple small problems that make it less than perfect. First off, it is a remarkable machine that produces superb prints of artwork. All final digital product is, of course, dependent on the filtering and scanning that the intake and digital manipulation software provide, but the quality of printing for line drawings, ink washes, and similar works really impressed me. I have not done a lot with photograph reproduction, but what I have done was also impressive.

It is not, however, a perfect machine. The settings process which has to be done per print, or saved as a custom batch setting is cumbersome. The layout is a bit awkward and makes it difficult to remember to go through every setting and tweak it for your particular batch printing job. You can establish your own profiles, but not every setting is included in the profile which means you might still have to tweak the settings for even the minute differences in a batch. As per tech support, the layout options per print are dependent on the software you are using to order the print job. The manual paper feed at the rear of the machine is EXTREMELY sensitive to paper being cocked a little to one side or the other (so sensitive that I truly believe it is imagining things). I am actually completely unable to determine what the problem is in each instance, and simply wiggle the paper a tad in its position, and try again. The output print is pushed hard against the right side of the machine, which is ridiculous considering the amount of space there is to work with. It tends to catch on the sundry little irregularities and joints in the plastic located there when using thin/flimsy paper. Thicker paper seems to glide over it without issue.

All in all, I can highly recommend it for quality of output and economy of use (relative use of "economy" here - these are very high quality prints and not dirt cheap), but it is not a 'set it and forget it' producer of batch prints. You do need to stay on it from start to finish. The last and final aggravation is that if you miss setting a paper-type change that requires matte black ink when you've been using photo black ink or vice versa, it undergoes a purge of the system, spilling all the 'other' type of ink into a waste tray. This is better than having to change out ink cartridges, but once it begins there is no way to stop it without shutting down the machine mid process which I'm sure is not recommended. However, if you don't, it will finish purging the one type of ink and then reloading with the other, and will do the whole thing in reverse when you correct your settings. A phenomenal waste of ink. There desperately needs to be an "abort" button to halt all processes in mid stride considering how easily you can miss a setting.

"Review of Epson 3880 Inkjet printer" 2010-07-10
By jackson07
Although I have only worked with the 3880 printer for a month I am quite satisfied with its performance. At this point no glitches. It set up reasonably fast and printed great images from the start.

Previously I used an Epson pro 4000 printer and it was getting old including software problems with the Mac snow leopard operating system.

The 3880 so far has done a great job. Is it better than the 4000/4800? Considering the short time that I have used it I cannot tell. However, it seems a more sophisticated unit and the results are terrific.

I'm only a few days into using this printer, but it really is amazing. With a calibrated monitor and the correct paper profile, it prints perfectly right out of the box. 20 minutes total from opening the box to printing great prints.

I always struggled with getting the right paper/driver setup on my r2400 and then it took 5 prints to get things right, but this printer just works.

I have noticed the faint pin-wheel marks on larger, dark prints that others have noticed, but I hope I'll find a way to eliminate them.

"I actually love it but, with caution" 2010-06-28
By G. Lott (San Antonio)
The Epson 3880 is a replacement for my 3800. Yes, I like it enough to buy the newer version but therein lies the rub. I'm replacing the 3800 after less than 4-years because of a clogged black nozzle. Which means the entire head has to be replaced, which means massive shipping charges plus the cost of the repair. All in all, for the greatest "peace of mind" it was better (and possibly cheaper) to purchase a new machine. If it wasn't for the fact that my previous model (3800) broke, I'd rate it 5-Stars.

"Wow - And it will pay for itself" 2010-06-17
By Howard W. (Santa Clarita, CA)
The main reason I used to justify the cost (to myself and my wife) for buying the 3880 was the ink cost. The ink cartriges are 8 times the size for 3 times the cost of the R1900 ink. I really like my Epson R1900 printer and still have it, but it is now religated to back-up and DVD/CD printing. But the cost and low amount of ink in each cartridge was killing me.

The 3880 was a lot bigger and heavier than I expected. I kidded myself reading the specs that it was only a little bigger than the R1900. It's not, it's a lot bigger.

Set up was easy. I love that it is a true network printer, so that the information is bi-direction even from a wireless computer.

The prints are spectacular. I used Eye-One to calibrate my monitor (on my Mac Pro with 2 24" cinema displays) and the prints are as close to my monitor as I have ever had before. The advanced B&W mode is also spectacular. Finally perfect B&W prints.

As of now, I've had the printer about a month. I've printed 40 17x22 full color (non-white background) posters. 70 8x10 B&W. 20 8x10 color and about another 20 smaller prints and just replaced the Vivid Magenta and Yellow. Most of the rest of the ink cartriges still have plenty of ink left. YAY!

After I ordered the printer Amazon started (daily, for a few days) offering me extra ink for the 3880 in my "gold box". As it turns out, Epson has two different K3 inks for Vivid Magenta and Light Magenta for the 3880 vs 3800 (all the other K3 inks are the same for both printers). Amazon offered me the wrong ones and since I didn't know that yet, I ordered them. They gave me a refund. T580A00 and T580B00 are the correct Magenta ones for the 3880. Even the Epson manual for the 3880 has it wrong in one of two places. I guess they just copied the 3800 manual and missed a few things. Amazon said they fixed it in their catalog, I haven't heard back from Epson yet. So be careful ordering extra ink.

A few things have gone wrong. I've had a few paper misfeeds, more than one sheet fed at a time. Thsi happened on my R1900 some times too mainly with Ultra Premium Matte. So watch for that. I've also had a driver problem. When I started printing the 17x22 posters, 10 at a time, 3 different posters. It seems that the driver got confused and half way through printing the first 10, it started using the settings from the second 10. I canceled all the jobs and did one poster at a time (e.g. 10 at a time) and everything was fine.

Another small problem. I have lots of 13x19 paper left over from the R1900. The 13x19 is not a native size for the 3880, so I had to make a "custom size". I tried several things, but still haven't been able to print a 13x19 borderless.

I'm also having problems with some of the function of the remote monitor program. Some of those functions don't find the printer on the network.

But these problems are minor and I'm sure will be fixed in software someday. Don't let that stop you from getting this wonderful printer.

Oh yeah, don't panic when you install the maintenance cartridge at initial setup, as it immediately goes to 73% available. That is normal.

This is one of the best printers I have ever owned. Everyone who has seen the prints from them is convinced that they are professionally done. And I guess that is true, since this is from Epsons professional line.

"Poor quality, frustrating to use, expensive ink." 2010-08-12
By Michelle A. (Longmont, CO USA)
The only positive thing about this printer is the price. Otherwise, I am quite disappointed with it.

As I expected, this printer shipped with starter ink cartridges. Well they're not kidding about having very little ink... the starter cartridges lasted a week, at best! Then, when we tried to get replacement cartridges, we of course found that the Epson brand cartridges were very expensive. So instead, we bought generic cartridges. They did not work - the printer threw errors. Putting in the original OEM cartridges fixed the errors, but of course, they were out of ink. We tried refilling the OEM cartridges and were told this was not possible with this type of cartridge. So with no other choice, we were forced to buy the expensive Epson brand cartridges.

Network installation was frustrating as you had to have the printer connected to the network in order to install the driver on the computer. This was a hassle for us because we were trying to configure laptops off-site and then deliver them to the employees. With other network printers, you can usually give the printer a static IP manually, install the driver separately on the computer, and then just point the computer to the printer's IP. But not in this case... it wouldn't even let us install the driver if the printer wasn't present! I presume the same would be the case for a USB local installation.

The document feeder can't seem to feed pages straight.

The scanner driver often just flat out stops working and needs to be reinstalled. I kept downloading the driver from Epson as needed but it happened so often (about once a month) that I finally just saved a copy of the driver on the desktop for easy re-installation.

Beyond that, I can't comment, as I am not the end user of the printer. I am just the IT tech so I'm telling you my experience. I am not impressed. The reports I have gotten from my end users also reflect the same sentiment. My suggestion is: Look for a different printer.

 "Good, but...." 2010-07-18
By Ted
The PRICE is good for the Epson 310 Workforce printer, but...

1. It's noisy when it "grabs" the paper from the feeder tray

2. Maybe most people wouldn't care, but it's hard to figure out how to shut it off. The pilot light stays on. I have to unplug it to save a few pennies of electricity.

I have not hooked up the fax feature.

It gives FAST text prints and is good on color photographs.

"Espon good for the price but not exceptional" 2010-07-12
By C. S. May (Timonium, md United States)
I had purchased this because I needed a good basic printer with all the functions. I have a Mac and my hp printer didn't work great after the upgrade to Snow Leopard. I downgraded from a 300 dollar printer to a 60 dollar printer. Overall not bad. I have a few frustrations with some things printing severly slow and sometimes it prints fine. The menu is a little frustrating as it doesnt seem to always do what i am asking...it likes to keep asking questions back.

I would say a good basic printer. I did not purchase an HP because the c6180 i had was always calibrating or something to make noises constantly.

 "Poor document feeding" 2010-07-06
By Michael J Stelmack (Phoenix, MD United States)
I honestly think Epson tried to pack too much into this bargain printer. I was initially happy with it, but after a few weeks it's become clear that the product has difficulty with paper jams. It frequently (almost always) jams when using the automatic document feeder (the copier or scanner). It sometimes jams when printing from the paper source.

"Good price, good product, network friendly" 2010-05-29
By P. Stearns (CALIFORNIA, US)
I recently bought the Epson WorkForce 310 printer to replace an old HP All-in-One. I was motivated by the fact that I could get the new printer and ink for less than I could buy the ink for the old printer... and because of the network ability and sheet feeder for scanning. Over all the printer works great. It scans MUCH faster than my old HP PSC 1610. SOftware is good, too. My complaints are two-fold: The WorkForce 310 is noisy. When it starts to print it makes quite a a lot of noise. The other issue is print quality choices. There are only three settings. The middle, default setting produces beautiful text output but at a slightly higher resolution than I need in many cases. In the lowest quality setting, the machine prints quickly but the quality is not good enough. On the HP, draft setting produced laser quality output but used very little ink. On the Epson, Draft mode is fast and uses little ink but te quality isn't good enough. On middle setting, quality is great but it takes longer and uses a lot more ink. Because draft isn't good enough compared to the old HP, I will be forced to print at the default middle setting which will result in my using a lot more ink than before. That will result in higher operating costs. SUGGESTION to EPSON: add another option for print quality rather than just having three settings. Have a setting between the middle, default and the low quality draft setting so I can use less ink but still get readable output.

"Better then what I expected for the price!" 2010-08-08
By M. Rydman (CA, USA)
First, some of the reviews I've read on this printer unfairly compare it to much higher end models. This is a BASIC home/office printer. I use it at work and print about 20+ BW docs a day and only an occasional color photo. I have an Epson R320, R340 and an Artisan 50 for the good stuff. But I needed a little workhorse that would eliminate me from running to the receptionist's desk every time I wanted to print a document to the network printer at work. The first thing I noticed was this is the FASTEST printer I've ever owned -- I LOVE it! Unlike my Artisan 50 at home, the 30 is LOUD -- but hey, the boss knows I'm working. Besides, I don't know how much quieter it could be with the carriage moving back and forth so fast. You can quiet it down using the properties and sacrificing some speed if it bothers you. Setup was very easy and Epson has a great Windows 7 support page for the newer printers. However, I'm running win98 on my work PC so I can't comment on it's compatibility with Win7 (The only reason I mention this is because it was helpful with my Artisan 50 at home). Overall I've had good luck with this printer. BW print quality is great and color is decent. But if your want a photo printer, you have to spend more money to get high quality photos. I feel that I got more for my money than I expected. I wanted an inexpensive workhorse and that's exactly what I got. So far the only downfall is the typical overpriced Epson ink.

 "Terrible Photo Quality" 2010-07-27
By Jennie (Tooele, UT, USA)
False advertising convinced me to buy this printer as a "replacement" for my Epson C88+ which had quit working. All of these printers quit printing when they reach a certain point & there's nothing you can do about it. The Epson Workforce 30 is a fast printer but the color quality is poor no matter what setting I use. A few days after setting it up, I began to long for Epson c88+ and decided to order several of them since they are being "replaced" by junk. If you need high quality color, don't buy Epson Workforce 30.

 "Very frustrating machine" 2010-07-14
By J. Bell (PA)
I have owned this printer for nearly a year. It still functions, which is a plus I guess, but this printer is extremely frustrating. It constantly jams and every other print job I have to open it up and rip out mutilated sheets of paper. It takes FIVE INK CARTRIDGES (2 black, 3 color) and sucks up ink like a black hole. It's extremely expensive and annoying to have to buy a new set of cartridges ALL THE TIME.

But the most frustrating thing is if one cartridge is empty, the printer REFUSES TO PRINT. PERIOD. I have 2 black ink cartridges that are half full but I am out of magenta ink. All I wanted to do was print out a resume with black ink only. Even if you specify "Black Ink Only" in the printing preferences the machine will refuse to print because one cartridge is empty, EVEN IF YOU WONT BE USING THAT CARTRIDGE AT ALL. It is so frustrating to have a black text document with plenty of black ink that you can't print because one of the color cartridges is empty.

Buy something else. Your blood pressure will thank you.

I hate this printer. So. Much.

"Do not buy for Windows 7 64-bit systems" 2010-06-20
    By ARO (Bethany Beach)
This printer is definitely not a good buy if you have a windows 7 64-bit system. It installed just fine on my desktop XP computer, but will not install on my laptop. It gets to the point where the wizard expects an inf file, then it can't find one anywhere. I looked on the Epson site and there is no download for windows 7 drivers. You can get a software package that would theoretically allow you to control the printer, but no inf file. I contacted Epson support and they claim that this is not a current model (so why is it for sale on their site?) and they do not have Windows 7 drivers and do not intend to provide them. I have been buying Epson printers very happily since the first Stylus printers came out, but this one really tears it. Nowhere on either the Epson site nor on the Amazon site does it say that Windows 7 is not supported. Needless to say I am really unhappy about this.

"Goes to hell after about 8 months" 2010-06-20
    By Marcia Purse
I've had two of these printers. They both have the same problem, though the first one lasted longer than the one I have now before the print quality disintegrated. I've had this one just over a year, and for the last several months no matter how many head cleanings I do in a row before trying to print, it is impossible to get a clean page. I have been doing heavy printing today and cleaned before I started, again in the middle, and finally got decent black printing ... and then color printing went wonky and all the blue came out red. I've just cleaned it three times in a row and the test pattern still has not only gaps but up and down spits. The only reason I'm still hanging onto it is that I have a lot of ink left and don't want to waste that expensive purchase. Oh, and I have only ever used Epson cartridges in it - never an off-brand. Avoid this printer like the plague!

"Wow! What a neat little printer!" 2010-06-13
    By P. Hyder (SC)
I bought this printer to replace an Epson 1160 that had just worn out. I wanted a printer that would print photos as well as half-page sized paper, specifically on vellum. This little gem is just the ticket. It is quieter than any printer I have ever had and has a modest footprint. Leaves space for paper changes. It also has the option of changing only one of four cartridges at a time. Quite a saving over the 1160. Were I in need of another printer, this is the one I would choose.

I am so impressed with this printer! The pictures are amazing! The colors are so vibrant and I think the prints turn out better than they do from the drugstore. The reviews I read before I bought this printer stated that the ink cartridge that came with the printer ran out before the paper did, well my ink cartridge lasted for more than the paper so I had to dig into the extra pack of ink and paper to print more pics. I say if you are thinking about buying a printer to print 4x6 photos this is the one to have! I love it!
