"HATE IT with a seething passion! BUYER BEWARE!" 2010-08-23
By D. Sullivan (California)
I purchased the Epson joyfully to replace a HP model that just stopped printing. I was excited to get back with epson as I had a great experience with them back in the late 90's. BOY WAS THAT A DISAPPOINTMENT.

I my personal option Epson is NOT the company that I once loved and recommend. I had issues with the machine and had to call their help line. I was met with rude, condescending employees who seemed to know significantly less than even the average user.

Frustrated, I went to email for the support. After getting 5 "canned response" emails (ie: had nothing to do with my specific problem), I finally got a response from a person. Their generic response was "that is not a Epson supported product". So I asked them, do you SELL labels? They said No. SOoooo LABELS are NOT supported? Absolutely asinine in this day in age!!!! They support NOTHING unless they make it (at an inflated rate, to milk you for as much money as possible! [see ink usage in cons]).

I could not return it because it was past my 30 days so I was stuck with it. Needless to say, the machine did not get better with age. I loath Epson with a passion after this experience.

PROS:

Scans nicely, quickly and software recognizes the media fairly well.

Setup fast and easy from out of the box

Pictures turn out decent (but not amazing)

CONS:

The machine eats ink like a starving animal, calling for refills before the wells are remotely dry.

Software engineered to deduct from ink quantity without actually using any.

Ink refills are EXPENSIVE and do not last (and I am a occasional printer).

VERY LITTLE is supported in the software, INCLUDING LABELS

The "draft" mode is a joke. It prints so light you can barely see it.

You can not adjust the ink settings in any mode, just select their "pre-existing" choices (IE: ink suckers)

Little things you may have taken for granted from other printer manufactures will be missing in the software

Paper gets stuck ALL THE TIME

Will not be able to print on thicker card-stock or labels unless making it as an "envelope" otherwise you must print as a "picture" on photo paper - in high quality photo mode (more ink!). Still sticks 1/2 the time.

I had the machine for a year and 1/2 - it *just* died. I did a happy dance!!! I was SO HAPPY to throw this thing in the trash!! BUYER BEWARE!

 "Great Device, Expensive Ink" 2010-08-23

Big fan of the scanner, printer, etc. Only complaint is that the ink is very expensive and the cheap alternatives do not work. It is literally cheaper to throw away the printer than replace the ink!

 "Waste of ink." 2010-08-15
By malibukid22
I am using this 3-in-1 inkjet with my main desktop computer running Ubuntu linux. All functions work fine, except scanner features are extremely limited. Printer looks attractive and has nice features. But, ink cost and the fact that it won't print anything if even one of the 4 cartridges is getting low on ink, makes this printer worthless. The printer is being thrown out, which is such a waste, but it isn't worth buying a new set of ink cartridges for it.

"Incredibly cheap construction, falling apart after only a few months of use" 2010-08-09
By Gunnar S. Storms (Los Angeles, CA United States)
I've owned the Epson Stylus NX415 for around 4 months after buying it to replace an aging HP printer I had. All I can say is that I will most likely never buy another Epson product again after experiencing the horrendous quality of this printer.

See that little flip-up screen on the left side of the printer? While attempting to fold it up it broke off, tearing out an electronic ribbon with it. This was definitely not due to any rough handling on my part, but simply due to the hinge being of extremely low quality.

Also, the slide-out tray that holds the printed pages also broke off after very gently extending it. I want to stress that none of these faults was due to rough handling or extensive use on my part. This printer sat on my desk almost untouched and only occasionally used, and yes it was brand new when I bought it. There is no explanation for it to be falling apart so easily other than it being of cheap construction.

I've had zero problems or broken parts with the HP printer that I previously used for 5 years before replacing it with this piece of junk.

Also, it goes through ink cartridges extremely fast and the cartridges are expensive (of course). In addition, you also cannot print pages if any ink cartridge is empty, even if the color isn't required for what you're trying to print. For example, you cannot print a black and white page if the cyan cartridge is empty, even if you have a full black cartridge. It's nothing but another tactic they use to force you to buy their over-priced cartridges.
