"great printer for med school" 2010-09-05
By Saurabh Bajpai
I have to print of many pages of notes with tons of diagrams, which honestly can not be differentiated without color. This allows me to do that. Since i also print so much, the laser is the way to go, b/c it saves much more money in the long run. Also i can refill the toner myself (so i'm saving more money by not constantly changing toners). This thing is big and i do mean really really big. Be prepared to have a very sturdy table to hold it up. The color comes out great, i wouldn't go on to say that it is phenomenal (but then again i wouldn't expect it for $350 either). The color do justice to what i need it for and will for most people. If you are in photography and need a really great printer (this probably isn't it). Hope this helps.

By S. Dugoni (San Francisco, CA)
I won't buy again. Had to toss this one and I bought the HP 4014n B&W. Fast, quiet, cheaper toner. I can use my inkjet if I need color. Don't buy color laser unless you need color all the time. Toner costs are outrageous and toner wont last long even if only printing B&W because it draws from all the color toner cartridges.

"Very dull muddy looking prints" 2010-08-19
By Wondurgurl (Toronto, ON)
If you're looking for dull, lifeless prints with muddy colors, this is the printer for you. I've tried changing the setting on the printer to "vivid" and oversaturated my picture, but the color prints still come out looking like they've been washed in mud. I can see this printer being good for flyers. The duplex ability of the printer is really handy and the black and white printing is very good.

"Excellent printer at a reasonable price" 2010-08-11
By Mike DeMaria_AMZ
I run a small business and occasionally need color. The most important things to me are cost, crisp printing, and speed. This printer combines all 3.

I purchased this printer to replace my Samsung CLP500 network color laser. It was a pig, constantly eating consumables. I finally had enough when a few months ago it complained that it was out of cyan toner - if I printed 100 pages of color that was a lot! I found all my cyan, and magenta, AND yellow toner in the 'waste toner bucket'. Every time the printer warmed up, it cycled the color toners, wasting them. Since it was a single drum machine, color printing was SLOW (think 4 pages a minute)

This Brother printer does NOT waste toner, and the 4 drums (one for each color) mean SPEEDY color printing. What I really love about it is when I print straight black and white, which is 99% of the time. Where the Samsung ran the color developers even if you only printed black and white, the Brother does NOT. It is smart enough to know when to run what, saving money.

The PDF manual is great, walking me through the procedure to clean one of the drums when I had a print quality problem (repeating mark). Network setup was easy. The duplex printing is also great (albeit a bit slow).

Just like others have said, pop those levers in the back if you are going to be printing envelopes and LEAVE them that way. I had some bad wrinkles, and that fixed them in a jiffy. Regular printing is still AOK even with the levers in the envelope position.

The only negative I have about the printer (and it's a VERY small one) is that the plastic feels a bit cheap and thin.

All in all, a great purchase!

"Does not print in the center of page." 2010-09-28
By R. Mau (seattle)
You need to adjust your document 1/16 in right of center to have your document print in the center of the page. Called Brother support and they printed a test page on their model, and it came out left of center also. They had no suggestions on how to fix the problem. Horrible support center. Was on the phone for almost an hour to try to get this problem resolved.

"Very satisfied with Brother products" 2010-09-19
By sonicare reviewer (California)
I've bought several Brother products over the years, and always been happy. This one is great too. When one of my colleagues recommended me a Brother printer many years ago, I said, "Brother, of all makers?" But, once I bought my first Brother product, I was completely sold out to them. Everything I bought since then from them exceeded my expectations. Their product lasts very long (often donate perfectly working product just to swap it out with newer products, not because anything is wrong.) Their support staff are the best also. They always provided me with fast services and right solutions. I can't remember ever spending a lot of time on the phone with them to resolve any tech issues (even though it's rare that I need to call them, simply because their stuff work just fine.) I would recommend Brother products to anyone.

It takes a minute or so to warm up when first printing. Noise is moderate for a home office. DO NOT GET THIS PRINTER IF YOU NEED ANY FORM OF QUALITY PHOTO PRINTS! As for printing of standard documents, it prints satisfactory. If I had known that it had such poor photo quality prints(even on the highest quality print settings) I would not have purchased this printer.

By Kenneth Burns (Thornton, CO USA)
I previously owned a B/W Brother multi-function printer and thought it was a wonderful piece of technology. Why then did I buy a new one. Something happened to the printer and I thought it would cost more to fix it than replace it. After looking around my suspicious were correct. Set up was fast and it actually took longer to setup the software than to put the unit together. (User goof) Over the years I have held a strong preference for HP Printers. In the past 4 years though, Brother has replaced that preference. Operation cost, ease of setup, faster printer engines for the comparable cost all give the edge to Brother. Good luck with your next printer purchase but mine will very likely be another Brother printer.

"This printer (and its predecessor) are the only ones our company uses" 2010-09-20
By Ron Rahav
I'm an IT Administrator.

Between this printer (HL-5370) and its VERY similar predecessor (HL-5250), our company has about 25 printers. We've had very few mechanical problems in the last few years. If you download the printer driver from their web site [...] then you can get a very small driver that installs NOTHING else, just the basic driver - No bloatware.

For normal/casual users, the printer and driver are very easy to setup.

However, TechnoGeeks like me, can also mange the printers through a web/HTML interface and BROTHER's BRAdmin software with which you can set the printers to send you email alerts for various events like "Drum Near end of LIfe" or "Low Toner"

These printers official life span span is 100,000 pages. After that, the fuser has to be replaced at a cost of 60%-80% of the price of a new printer. You can however continue using the printer beyond the 100,000 page mark. The printer in my office, has already passed the 100,000 mark and is working fine.

BROTHER's Tech. Support is abysmal, so it's a good thing these printers are more reliable than most.

WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH OUR PURCHASE OF THE BROTHER LASER PRINTER. ORIGINALLY WE HAVE BEEN USING AN INK JET PRINTER AND WERE FRUSTRATED WITH THE HIGH INK REPLACEMENT COST, WET COPIES, ETC... WE MADE THE SWITCH TO THE LASER PRINTER MADE BY BROTHER AND ONLY WISH WE HAD SWITCHED SOONER. THIS LASER PRINTER IS SUPER FAST, HAS AN ADDITIONAL PAPER TRAY, COPIES ARE DRY, WE HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE INK YET (BY THIS TIME WOULD HAVE HAD TO REPLACE INK SEVERAL TIMES WITH INK JET). THE BROTHER LASER PRINTER CAN HANDLE OUR SMALL OFFICE OF 5 EMPLOYEES WORKLOAD WITH NO PROBLEMS.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!! I have had this printer for 6 months and have already had to replace all the toner and the drum units but have only had less than 1000 prints!! This is not covered under warranty, I cannot return the product and I have already spent more in supplies than I did for the printer. Called brother for help, got redirected 3 times and then they sent me what was in the user manual. Useless customer service...even more useless product. DO NOT BUY!!!

"Does what it is supposed to!" 2010-09-10
By E. Kerby (Salt Lake City, UT)
I purchased this printer a few weeks ago, and I love it! My eyes teared up a little when I saw the demo test page because it is SO nice to finally have a printer that actually does what it is supposed to.

If you need something really really fancy, I don't know how this printer compares to really really fancy printers, BUT, for my home office, this printer is absolutely perfect.

It was VERY easy to set up this printer. The instructions that come with it are totally clear, and everything is straightforward. The diagrams and pictures make sense. It's the kind of thing where you skip steps here and there (because they are just common sense) but if you have any question or confusion, you can look at the instructions and you immediately understand. (Setup was slightly different for our PC and mac, but the instructions cover both types, and both were very easy.)

I didn't have a USB 2.0 cable anymore (whoops!), so I had to go buy one, because that doesn't come in the box.

Everything since setup has been a dream--we press print and it asks the things that printers are supposed to (like about size and DPI, etc), and then it PRINTS! (Our old printer used to be such a pain--it would gray out some options that I wanted sometimes, and it would pop up a bunch of boxes on my screen about ordering Lex***k stuff and registering (again!), and then it took forever to print and needed to realign all the time...none of that nonsense with our new Brother, though!)

I think the quality of the pages I've printed has been exceptional. The printer seems to go to sleep pretty quickly when I am not using it, but as soon as I am ready to print, it wakes right up and gets down to business. The printer prints quickly--it says 17 pages per minute. Now, I haven't counted how many pages per minute I actually get, but each page only takes a few seconds, so that has been quite convenient.

I don't really have anything negative to say about this printer. The features I most wish it had are:

- scan/copy (but obviously I knew it didn't do that when I bought it, and I much prefer this printer that PRINTS over the old "printer" that could scan/copy all right but did not print very well...)

- wireless printing (would be nice, but it's not a big deal, and they make them with wireless; you just have to pay more.)

- duplexing. (Oh well.)

My favorite features are:

- (nice) color printing!

- mac compatible!

- prints quickly!

In conclusion, I highly recommend this printer (especially for homes and small businesses)! It does what it is supposed to. For my small business it has been great so far, as it creates very professional looking documents.

"Print is ok, when it prints" 2010-08-27
By John Nordin (Minnesota, USA)
My first review was eaten by Amazon for some reason, reposting.

The print quality is quite nice and it prints quickly on 8.5x11 paper. Everything else about this printer is a nightmare of poor usability. Let's list the problems:

-- toner doesn't last very long

-- low toner message on computer doesn't tell you which one is low.

-- they don't make clear that you need to buy drums in addition to toner, just not as often.

-- printing costs are very expensive when you factor in toner and drums

-- display is old technology and is hard if not impossible to read unless you are looking at it head on in direct light

-- display is limited to one slowly scrolling line

-- when one toner gets low, printing just stops. Doesn't print faded, doesn't print bxw if color toner is out, it just up and totally quits.

-- menu of paper sizes is weird and doesn't include 4x6 or 5x8. List doesn't include the sizes, you have to look at the help for that.

-- single sheet feeder is needed for most non 8.5x11 sizes

-- single sheet feeder is prone to jams

-- paper path is complex, would be tough on thick paper, I think

"Great printer for the money." 2010-08-16
By J. Baker
I was on the market for a MacOSX compatible, network color printer and the Brother HL-3040CN was on a Clearance Sale at Staples for only $99.50. At that price I snapped it up. It is a nice printer so far. The software install and setup as a network printer was amazingly quick and easy. I like the idea of the toner on the printed pages not being water soluble. Toner cartridges were over $78 at Staples so I ordered a replacement Brother TN210BK toner cartridge from Amazon for approx. $48. The only feature I would add to this printer is the convenience of Auto Duplex printing. I will not miss the constant clogging of the printhead on the older color inkjet printer that this printer is a replacement for.

 "Great basic printer" 2010-08-08
By M. McShane (Virginia, United States)
I bought this printer for home use. I don't print often--just coupons or shipping labels or word documents mostly. I don't do any fancy printing jobs or photos so I can't comment on how it does with those. I wanted something that the ink wouldn't dry up in a few months and the Brother laser printer seemed like a good choice. So far, it has worked great. It is attached to my home network through ethernet, I turn it on when I want to print and off when I am done. Warm-up time is really quick and print quality is a-okay. Initially, it smelled slightly of burning or ink dust (I wasn't really sure which) but that has faded over the past few months. I am quite pleased with my printer.

Got one from costco. Test page wouldn't print black, so called CS & was sent a new one (they needed a credit card to send you a second one, no charges have appeared as long as you send them the old one within 3 days of getting the new one).

Anyway, the new one is working fine so far. Seems to be an OK printer, if you can deal with the hassle of possibly getting a printer with issues. Do like the print quality, cost for cartridges.

"ZERO stars for ZERO customer service!" 2010-07-30
By Isuzan (Midwest)
Well, give it up for another company that sent it's customer service people jobs overseas - they can only read from a script and nothing else. I purchased this printer at Staples yesterday; got a great deal on it (SO I THOUGHT) 'cause they were clearancing them out for the newer model. I even looked at Amazon reviews prior to purchasing it. Some were so stellar I thought, "Hey, I have to give this a try!" but the bad ones really made me nervous. Guess I should've gone with my gut.

I happily unpacked it today, put the cartridges in, and it printed out a perfect page. HOORAY! NOT SO FAST THERE 'PARDNER...I shouted in jubilation far too quickly. Immediately it went into convulsions (that machine gun sound) and gave me the dreaded error, "Unable to Init. AF". I went through all the troubleshooting online and called their "Customer service" center (and I use this term loosely). He said it definately needed to be replaced, and would be happy to assist.

He said that he'd need a credit card to put a $50 hold on my credit card "In case the original machine is not returned". WHAT? I said, "I don't have a credit card". My only other two options were to take it to service center (this thing is HEAVY...I should not have to lug it an hour away to get it repaired - oh, and wait at least a week); or I could pay to insure it and send it back to Brother at my OWN EXPENSE.

After hours of this nonsense (trying to get a non-working new printer to work) and dealing with non-English speaking individuals who don't understand the nuances of the English language, I'm perturbed and will NEVER recommend or purchase a Brother product again. I will find someone who can give me a credit card so this can be exchanged and be done with it; but will spread the word that this company is awful to do business with - and that this product should be avoided at all costs. Hopefully the replacement works; I'll update this later if it does not.

I purchased one other Brother printer this year - through Amazon, and had to send it back as it also have untold errors. Does Mickey Mouse put these things together?

Is there a number less than ZERO I could give this manufacturer and product? Sure wish there was!

I am very impressed at the longevity of the ink cartridges of this machine, bought this at the end of April this year have run off at least 200 plus copy's and have not had to replace the ink cartridges yet. On my Lexmark 7100 I would have done a replacement twice by now. What a difference and a pleasure to have this machine it has almost paid for itself just in a few months and I have years of warranty left and I bought two sets of ink replacements with it. I am probably set for at least the rest of this year and maybe to the anniversary of me buying it next year, it was easy to set up, its easy to use and best of all my wife likes it and has told me thank you for buying it; and after 25yrs of marriage I did something right thanks "Brother" you made it possible.

Its is worth every penny you pay for it. Thanks Amazon for bringing us these high quality products and the extended warranty's that are offered it really makes the purchases a even better deal.

 "Very user unfriendly" 2010-06-11
By freeseek
I setup this printer yesterday in my lab. I was very surprised at first that there was no mention of where the network cable needs to be inserted. Basically you have to open the printer first. I have no idea why they decided to make it so complicated. Setting the printer up is overall a bit of a pain. For some reasons there is no web server working on it, though port 80 seems to be open. The little menu is very counterintuitive as it is not clear what you have to do to go back through the menus. The last straw came today when the printer refused to work, giving the only message "unable to print 30". There is no clue given about what this means and about what to do. Reading on the internet, it seems something might have got stuck. Not bad since we printed something like 5 pages before this happened. But what really angers me is that there is no explanation given for the error, just a useless number. The printer is clearly not thought with the user in mind. Be prepared to waste a lot of your time. I hope my lab will be able to return it.

"Super pleased with my purchase of this mutli-function printer!" 2010-09-04
By Portia
Fast and easy to set up with my new iMac; much quieter than the Lexmark laser printer I previously used and it begins printing quickly after being turned on or when coming out of sleep mode. Unlike a couple of other reviewers, I've experienced no problems with the start-up power surge & it's handled sheets of labels and envelopes beautifully, with none of the crinkling of envelopes that often happens with laser printers, even those far more expensive than this one.

Both the photocopying and scanning functions are easy to launch and are working well. So far, the starter toner cartridge packaged with the printer has taken me through about 700 pages. The print quality of documents is not the absolutely very best I've seen, but it's fine and shouldn't prompt you to decide against purchasing this Brother. Last but not least, I love the relatively small footprint and the fact that it's not a hulking presence.

Indeed, I consider this such a terrific value, I'm now thinking about purchasing another DCP-740 to have on hand when this one eventually dies.

Bought this printer to replace an old Xerox WorkCentre XL 2130f copier/printer. The Xerox stopped feeding paper and fixing it wasn't worth the hassle. This Brother printer was super easy to set up and runs much faster and quieter than the Xerox. It appears that the replacement toner cost will be quite a bit lower as well. Copy and print quality are just fine my home usage. I already have a Canon scanner so I doubt I will ever use the scan function.

"Excellent multi-function for home office!" 2010-08-18
By Scott Suddarth
Bought this device to use for a home office. I couldn't be happier. It performs all its functions flawlessly. Print, copy, & scan quality & speed are all excellent. I also liked that it left out the fax capability. It is much cheaper & more efficient to scan a document & use an online fax service to send & receive faxes. Setup was a breeze as well. If you need an inexpensive multi-function solution for your home and/or office, you can't go wrong with this unit. You can pay more for other brands, but you certainly won't get more.

"This copier is great for the price" 2010-08-01
By Dave The Man
This is a great little copier. I own several brother printers. I bought this just to be a copier. It works awesome for that. This is a basic copier so it doesn't have every option.

It comes with a starter cartridge, but there are bigger replacements that are easily found. I have no complaints. Well I do have a complaint. Seems like some of the people that comment here and give reviews couldn't find their way out of a paper bag. It's kind of sad when there is a great product like this and people make dumb comments not even understanding that this is a base line product. It's cheap and perfect. It doesn't need to do anything else. I would recommend it to anyone. Just wish these sad people that say bad things didn't even waste their time commenting here. If you want more features then buy something different.

 "Power Spike Show Stopper" 2010-05-11
By Sandman (Ridgecrest, CA)
According to Brother, the DCP-7040 mfp has an 8.8 amp spike(1056 max watts) when it turns on. The spike causes my surge protector to shut down the computer system - even when plugged directly into the wall outlet and even from "sleep". Brother recommends plugging directly into the wall outlet. Brother also says the printer is not designed for use with a UPS or surge protector. Adorama Camera won't take the printer back (laser cartridge opened)and recommended I call Brother. Brother said call an electrician. The electrician said I need a separate circuit and quoted $350 to install separate printer circuit. A $350 solution doesn't make sense for a $170 printer. Amazon won't help because Adorama sold me the printer. I spent 2 weeks on the phone and doing emails, as advised by Amazon, to be told finally that "Amazon can't do anything". I can't recommend the Brother DCP-7040. I can't comment on the printer functions, because I only printed 2 sheets. I did print one page (without system shutdown) plugging the printer into a heavy duty extension cord plugged into a separate room on a separate circuit in my house. This isn't a reasonable solution either. Amazon agents said, "Amazon will back you". Amazon didn't. I'm not happy with Amazon, Adorama Camera and Brother. The A-to-z Guarantee Program just repeated Adorama's original refusal. I was prepared to return it before the deadline.

 "Far Better than HP" 2010-08-28
By RI
I purchased an HP Laser Jet MFC printer, HP LaserJet CM1312nfi CC431A MFC. The HP printer had to be replaced within 1 month of purchase due to surge protector problem then it was replaced again when it started printing a straight dark line on each page. Again the product had to be replaced. To make matters worst, the color cartridges started to leak the powdere in the ink onto the printer. My problems were further aggravated by the printer making a rumbling noise which indicated that more problems were down the road. I evaluated whether to replace the color ink cartridges which sells for $250.00 or buy the Brother MFC. I am happy to report, I purchased the Brother MFC. This is a great printer. The ink cartridges are not as expenses as HP (HP Laserjet cartridges, black sell for 79.00 whereas Brother is $49.0). One of my favorite feature is the ink saver printer mode which prints great drafts. This is a great investment and I should have done my research prior to spending $400.00 on an HP printer that barely lasted a year.

 "Great printer" 2010-08-20
By Kitchen geek (CA)
We now own two of these machines, I liked the home one so much I bought one for work. They do it all--print, copy and fax in black and white and in color, scan as images or text to the computer, and do it fast, quietly, and well. Compared to our old printer, which did just that and no more, or our old copier which jammed every second paper, this machine is awesome. The print quality is excellent, laser quality and although we haven't had to replace toner yet, I am pretty sure the cost is lower than many others.

 "Small business use" 2010-08-19
By DF (Buckeye Nation)
I own a small business and purchased the MFC-9120CN from Amazon.com about 6 months ago. I use both the scan and color print features several times per week, however I do not use the fax functionality. I am very satisfied with the ease of use and print quality of this machine. Scanning is extremely easy. You can scan multiple pages at one time and the quality of the scanned image is exceptional. The scans can be downloaded to a folder on your hard drive or attached to an e-mail without any extra steps.

The print quality is good enough for me to produce proposal materials and have the finished product look very professional. For a small business, the speed and noise levels are very acceptable.

If there is anything that is frustrating, it is the cost of the toner. However, I don't think that has anything to do with this machine. I just think toner is too expensive, period. I will probably go through about $400 of toner on an annual basis, with moderate use. In other words, I don't use this machine for mass mailings, but I do print about 40 invoices per month and another few hundred color prints per month for proposals and other random copies.

The copier function is adequate, as well. However, there is a decrease in quality from the original to the copy. Again, that is not unique to this printer, but it is noticeable.

Overall, it's worked like a champ and I would recommend it to someone in a situation similar to mine.

"Solid Color Laser Printer for the Price" 2010-07-16
By 510man
I bought this Brother printer to replace an HP 2840 color laser. I like the Brother. It's smaller and quieter. It doesn't have to calibrate a couple times a day either. Scans are way faster than the HP and the scan quality if far better than the HP. Copies and printing are great, as expected. I don't ever fax so I can't address it's capabilities there.

I found one limitation with this printer that prevented me from giving it five stars. The printer can only be used as a network printer attached to the router via an Ethernet cable or it can be a workstation printer supporting one PC attached via a USB cable. If your using Windows networking to share the printer (i.e. it's connected to one PC via USB and enabled for print sharing), it's not supported. What? You got it. Brother won't let you share the printer other than to have it setup as a network printer attached to the router.

This is an issue if, like me, the router is nowhere near the printer and you want to do a lot of scanning using the PC based utilities vs. the little screen on the printer. You can scan with it as a network printer but you can only do it using the function keys on the printer itself. You lose the benefits of the PC software based approach. If you do any volume of scanning, you want the PC utilities enabled.

I was able to work around the problem and get it working like I wanted but it took a couple days working on and off to sort out. I called Brother technical support. They kindly told me the printer doesn't support what I wanted to do and I should return the product. What? Unbelievable!!

To get it to work as a shared USB attached printer, you have to go through the CD install process on each PC. That's okay once you understand that's the process.

The only remaining limitation is quickly setting up a temporary shared user. Say your brother-in-law is in town for the weekend and needs to print. He can't use the Windows "Add a printer" function and get to your Brother printer. You have to go find the CD and do a full install for your brother-in-law to print his Mapquest directions home. It's not a huge problem but Brother should not have designed it this way.

Hope it helps somebody.

 "Would buy it again" 2010-06-25
By JG (Denver, CO)
Exactly as described. Setup was simple and straight-forward. It is a bit loud when it's starting up, but once it goes back to sleep, it's quiet again. For an office use this would be no problem. If you did a *lot* of printing at home, the noise might be a bit bothersome. But otherwise, this appears to be a great product.

 "Great Printer/Scanner" 2010-08-28
By Fred Coleman (Studio City, CA USA)
I use this printer for business mostly - real estate. I use the scan feature almost as much as the printing feature. Both work great. This unit was used to replace another Brother MFC-8860. (I have no idea after reading everything what the numbers mean). Anyway, I ran that one into the ground. This one works just as well. Obviously, if you are looking for color - this isn't it. For that I use the Brother HL4070CDW. (It doesn't work as well, but for color/price it is great too.)

"DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER" 2010-08-22
By Cybesq
I recently bought this MFC-8480DN printer for my small business. The scan function never works properly on this machine. The prompt constantly reads "Check Connection". When I recently called Brother Customer service to try and address the issue, I was told that MAC users did not get customer support on Saturdays. When I asked why that was the case, a customer service MANAGER named Daisy, explained that Brother conducted a study and found that it was not cost effective for them to provide support for MAC users on Saturdays. After complaining about the level of customer service for MAC users, she told me that the best she could do would be to offer me a $10 brother gift certificate. Seriously. $10. Brother doesn't even sell anything that costs $10.

The User's Guide for this product does not even have a section on scanning. It tells you to consult the CD-ROM.

Bottom Line: JUNK with poor customer service.

"Best printer I have ever used!" 2010-06-23
By EBT (Southern California)
I purchased this printer on special at a local electronics store expecting a relatively inexpensive way to print without ink, but with some nice features like duplexing and scanning. This printer blew me away with how easy it was to setup on my network (just plugged it in, and it worked!) and how it had even better features than I knew, such as scanning to pc + USB scanning, and one of the coolest features... 2 sided copying! (as far as I know, the specs said it doesnt). My only complaints would be its pretty big for home use, but thats understandable for all the features it has built into it; also as far as I can tell, the scanner lamp never turns off, to me this is a waist of electricity, and leave more of a chance for this thing to burn out. Overall a great printer, and well worth the price, if not more!

I purchased the previous model to this machine for one office and loved it. When I tried to purchase the same model, they discontinued it and I had to purchase this one. I AM NOT SORRY. The scanning is easier and it is a wonderful machine. And I thought I was happy with the last model. OMG, love this one. I read other reviews about it not printing properly but I haven't experienced that problem yet and I've had it three months and have printed daily. I haven't even changed the toner yet even though I bought one with it - and I print a lot of paper for one user. Brother machines have always worked well for me and I'm still a fan.

 "Checkout First" 2010-09-01
By J. Vang
I special order this Brother MFC-9320cw from Amazone.com. I like most about everything including features, functions and the price is fine. The worse feature about this printer is the manual feed. It offers just only one page at a time and you still have to hold that sheet of paper straight and constanly jam. It took me almost 2 hours to print 30 sheets of card stock. If you are looking to print card stocks and manual feed this is 100% not a good choice for you to buy.....

I am very pleased with this printer. The print quality is excellent and being able to use it wirelessly is very convenient. Setup was pretty easy, but the wireless part was a bit confusing. However, technical support was excellent and quick. It works seamlessly with my Mac and would recommend it highly.

"I so hate this thing." 2010-08-19
By K. OBRIEN (Austin)
Can I return it? I'm going to check. If not, I'm going to sell it. Piece of crap.

It systemically gives notice of a false jam that requires you to pull out all four color printer cartridges when you try to do a feed. I have read this is a general problem. You have to let it "catch" the envelope to avoid it, but that only avoids it about 70% of the time. What royal crap. The feed "tray" is about an inch and a half. The whole unit is slow as molasses. Piece of crap, piece of crap. I think they mostly finish the unit, make sure it looks nice and selling it knowing full well it's got functional defects. And they think they'll just sell enough and get away with it. It's grounds for a recall, geez. But they don't do that unless it's a safety issue. How about safety of the unit, because I'm about to beat it into poker chips with a baseball bat.

 "Brothers MFC-9320CW - Great Printer" 2010-08-11
By John M. Freud
My wife had had a printer/copier/reducer/enlarger before but three years ago, it finally bit the dust. We had moved and retired, so settled into the HP printer mode, which was depressing. Recently she mentioned wanting a reducer/enlarger again, so I did some research and found this printer highly recommended. We found the best price on Amazon and got it. On the pro side, it does everything we/she wants and more, and either on our home wired or wireless network. The only con was the setup - if you use encryption on your wireless network, I found it can only be the simple form of WEP and not WEP2, etc. Other than that, it is a dream.

"Great machine with inexpensive comsumables" 2010-05-26
By Jaygyver (Western Wa. USA)
First one came DOA, (after a couple thousand miles of shipping, from factory, to warehouse, to store, to customer) its bound to happen, (ex truck driver, definitely Karma) called Brother and they sent out a NEW one 3 days later. I'm guessing i got a NEW one because it was only 15 minutes old, probably would have got a refurbished had it been older or had to drive an hour to their shop to keep the old one. Support (North American) was great and had all the info for trouble shooting on hand. Only took a minute or two, in the afternoon, to talk to a human.

Works great on my older PPC Macs (10.4.x & 10.5.x). Software even worked right off the CD, rare for a Mac. All the updates are on their Web site. The firmware update DID work wirelessly.

Pretty much what every one else says. Great color, fast in B/W even in "fine" color, etc.

Easy networking, if you already have a wireless network just enter your SSID and Password and that's it. Took me all of a minute to set up the wireless only because I didn't realize I was done. If your starting a Wireless network from scratch then you should setup your computer and wireless router first then connect the printer as above. Its a lot easier to look at a 20" monitor and use a mouse then to look at a 1" LCD and use buttons. The included software enables you to also connect to the printer itself in either a web browser or their application. Great for fine tuning or changing settings after your connected.

For those that have problems with the envelope feeder from "heck", just do as Brother says, push the envelope in till it stops -AND- wait for it to grab it. It only moves about 1/8 inch, you barely notice, it takes a few seconds, then send the print job. Worked every time for me. (don't forget to open the rear door) If it gives the fake "Paper Jam" error then just remove the envelope and raise the lid for 3 or 4 seconds then close it and start over. Also, don't forget to close the rear door AFTER your done as the standard paper will come out the back instead. The envelopes are a bit "smooshed" and a little wrinkled on mine. Not too bad but noticeable. Even on "Thick Envelope" setting.(I'll just blame it on the Post Office if any one asks) Unless you have "Laser compatible" envelopes you will have to open the flap on the envelope immediately after it comes out as it will seal itself if you don't. At least on my generic cheapo's it does.

On some of the other reviews people have said the Toner cost's too much, I'm not sure why they said that as they average about $50.00 (US) each.Brother TN210BK - Toner cartridge - 1 x black - 2200 pages That's about half what some of the higher printers go for. Altho I have seen them for $70+ each, but then I've seen this same printer go for $650+. -Shop around-. Even the drums come in a -four- pack for around $100.Brother DR210CL - Drum kit - 1 - 15000 pages The Toner's -average- life is 1200 to 2500 pages and the Drums have a life of 15,000 pages. The Toner and Drum "unit" is a two piece affair. When the Toner is out you just buy the Toner, unsnap the old one and snap in the new one. I guess they are looking at the "Dual Packs" with the Toner AND the Drums packaged together. Not needed and a waste of money. If the Lasers are anything like Inkjets when using color, then one color will be used up a lot faster then the other colors, the other colors may not be needed for days, weeks or months. I was so tired of having to change an "all colors in one" inkjet cartridge when it show almost half full of another color. Refilled them myself after that.

For those that only got a couple hundred pages on a new Toner cartridge, try --gently-- shaking them when they are new to loosen up the powder, when they sit for weeks or months on store shelves they tend to settle into chunks and that will break them up and level it out a bit. (I'm not sure how sealed they are after you take the protective cover off, so use a cover on the counter and old clothes just in case). If you really want to use every gram of Toner then just Yahoo/Google -fixyourownprinter- . Use at your own risk.
