"It's pretty OK for a budget laser printer" 2010-05-14
By Rendi (NYC)
Overall it is a pretty acceptable laser printer for this price range with wireless connectivity. I have no complain about the setup. Actually, it works pretty good with both my Windows and Ubuntu PCs. Kinda surprised me. The only con encountered so far is the print out get tilted if the paper tray is full. I just keep it half full and it works fine so far.

 "Brother HL-2170W" 2010-05-10

I needed a laser printer for the work environment, a personal printer for our executive management. I looked for an affordable, low maintenance and low end cost per page personal laser printer. I found it in the Brother HL-2170W. The Brother delivers good quality 600 dpi laser prints. This laser printer includes wired ethernet and wireless 802.11b/g, an advantage in our networked environment. The drum is separate from the toner so the toner costs are less. Estimated drum life is 12k pages. Approximately 2.6k pages per high yield toner cartridges. Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer with Wireless and Wired Network Interfaces

So far this system is working like a charm. Print quality is great, speed is up to par, and pretty quiet as far as printers go. Haven't set up the wireless yet, but hopefully it will be easy than previous reviews have reported.

 "Bad seller" 2010-05-09
By Albert P. Oliveira
I used the printer for 5 days then it stopped working. I then tried a series of methods to correct the problem to no avail. I contacted the seller with a very negative response from them. The seller refuses to take the defective printer back. Stay away from this seller, I would not trust them !!

"Few flaws, still worth for the money." 2010-05-07
By Oliver Yang (IL, USA)
It's probably the best, if not the only, wireless laser printer under $100 in the market.

Before purchasing this printer, some reviews complain the complication of wireless installation. It's not a problem at all if you do follow the instruction step by step. The actually printing speed is faster than I would expect from the spec. Not that it's faster than the specified, it's fast enough for home or small office use, even for the first page. There is no endless "warm up" time. The print quality is also good for everyday printing. A lot of features provided by the driver is a plus. Overall, it's not the best in each category (speed, quality, etc.) but the best for budget buyers.

Some cons to mention:

1. The starter cartridge only lasted 136 pages in my case. Once the toner light is on, the printer refuses to print anything page. Used under default setting and printed only regular report, no large area printing. I'm now using the "TN360 High Yield Cartridge". Hope it can last much longer.

2. It's a bit noisy when printing (still acceptable to me).

3. There is no manual feeding "tray". You have to hold the paper to be printed until the printer rolls it in. One at a time...

4. I accidentally installed the driver in different language in my XP machine. I can't find a way to get rid of it. Have tried delete the printer and install the English driver with no luck. The later-installed driver can't override the previous one.

One last suggestion, I found the "save toner" feature still outputs solid quality when printing plain text. I can't tell the difference with or without it. I now always have this function on unless I need to print darker graph. Hope it can save some toner.
