After having bought 3 of these and returning one and getting the same issue, I am done with these printers. They print well and are easy to install. But I have had issues with LEDS in the scanner\copy going bad. All 3 of the ones that I have gotten within 2 weeks had lines on all copies and scans. HP was of no use at all, Amazon tried to remedy the problem and sent me another printer. Within a week, it too had the issue. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM

I bought my Officejet 6500 about a year ago and it has performed better than I ever expected. It replaced a 2 yr old Epson Stylus RX500 which died a function at a time and I'm glad it did. This machine is packed with features that work very well and are easy to use. The fax function even has an answering machine on it. Print quality is equal to a color laser. I have the wireless feature and never a connectivity problem for my laptop. It has a fully functional console with LCD window. There are many adjustment options for all phases of functions i.e., light dark, fast or slow, quality print, fax speed, scan product as jpg, pdf, etc. This is a great machine even if it was $100 more expensive.

This is the second HP printerl I have purchased. The first printer was PSC 1600 All-In-One it has and still does work perfectly. Do to increasing needs I needed to purchase a second printer and decided to choose the HP Officjet Pro 6500 E709a because of the features. I purchased this printer from Amazon.com as they had the best price and I am a PRIME member so when I ordered it I choose One-Day delivery which cost just a few dollars. This is a non-wireless printer. The Installation was a snap. Those who have had trouble with installing this printers software have either a problem with reading instructions or a computer that is short of disk space or memory, I belive. Everything the printer was advertised to do did it with excellence. The sheet feeder for copying worked without a hitch. Print quality and speed is excellent. As far a noise, from what I have read in other reviews, was suppose to be a problem. This is an INKJET not a LASER printer and yes there will be noise because it has more moving parts than a laser printer but I find that it is no noisier than any other printer of this type. HP seems to have a reputation for bad custome service, but from my experience with them, I find there service to be exceptional. If you know your product and can relate intelligently what the problem is then you will get an intelligent and understandable response. I highly recommend this printer!

Don't be fooled by all of the negative reviews that you and I have both read about the Officejet 6500. Most of them tell you how hard and time consuming the task of setting up this printer was for them. But, I read one review that summed it all up, plain and simple. It basically said: READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Read the written instructions first (Do not connect the USB or Ethernet cables until the Starter CD instructs you to). After you have followed the one page written instructions, insert the Starter CD and follow its set-up procedures. IT'S THAT SIMPLE! I have a simple 2009 3G HP Computer running Windows Vista. I had the 6500 successfully set up and had tested each of its four main features (Fax, Copy, Scan, Print) in about 30 - 40 minutes.

This is a draft review. I have not been able to use it other than basic printing. The printer arrived quickly, and seemed to be exactly what I needed. The first problem: NO USB CORD, I was able to use the cord from my current printer. Second problem: The software CD is not compatible with Windows 7. A long telephone call to HP resulted in a CD for software supported by Windows 7 is in the mail (the download would have taken forever). I also asked for a USB cord and I think it is on its way? HP met my needs but it was frustrating to go back, look, look again, and then finally find where the software is stated to be for XP and Vista only. That's a "duh" on me but the advertisement specs should be more assertive about software and USB cords.
