"Finally! A Printer That Actually Works!" 2010-05-30
By IndependentLeigh (Soutnern US)
Fast printing, no wasted space on paper, no jams, no "busy" as with HPs. There is less paper when printing. It doesn't waste ink when doing a test print. There is no spitting out extra paper and no feeding blank paper. No jamming paper on its own and then claiming a paper jam. The copies are beautiful and you don't have to fight with it to set it up.

It beats anything that HP and Canon puts out. It's the first printer I've every had that I haven't had to fight with to get it to do something. It has stopped hours of aggravation that the other brands have caused.

"Very good overall, loses a star (or two) for poor paper handling" 2010-05-29
By justDave (NY, United States)
Pluses:

- Excellent print and scan quality

- Document feeder (ADF)

- Fast copy (ADF or flatbed)

- Fast scan (but only via ADF)

- Cheap ink cartridges from eBay

Minuses:

- No duplex printing

- Poor handling of envelopes and card stock

- ADF only likes letter, legal, and A4 sizes. The paper guide wont adjust to anything smaller and the paper usually won't scan straight.

- Flatbed scanner scans each page twice - slow...

On this last point, I just got off the phone with Epson support. He said it's definitely the way the scanner is supposed to work. Sounds like a bug to me. Happens whether you scan to memory card or to PC. Happens even if you scan in draft quality and give it a fixed page size. I've never seen this on any other scanner.

Canon printers definitely win in the paper handling department. Never had trouble with card stock or envelopes on my MP780 or iP4000/5000's. I'd go back to Canon for my next printer/scanner if the aftermarket ink situation improves.

 "Noise" 2010-05-29
By Robert Ford (Capitola, CA)
Most everything about this printer has been positive. The only issue I have with it is the noise it generates. The worst is at the moment that the printer begins feeding a sheet of paper. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it sounds like a grappling hook latching onto an auto thats about to be dropped into a compactor. The rest of the functioning is above the noise level I've been used to with previous HP printers, but is at least acceptable.

 "Don't Buy: Printing costly!" 2010-05-27
By JMo (California)
Please don't buy this printer unless you have extra $$$ to spend every month on print cartridges. The amount of pages this machine prints per cartridge is RIDICULOUSLY low. I used to sell business/office copiers and printers, and I know all the ins/outs of these desktop machines and their ratings. However, I have no idea where any of the page per cartridge rankings come from, because they are not even close. I researched and researched and the data is simply wrong. I wish this wasn't the case, because otherwise I really like the machine: scanning, copying and printing all work well. I haven't used it as a fax. It's easy to use, fast, and has some really good features. Haven't had a problem with anything, aside from the occasional paper feed issue. I'd give it a 4 star aside from printing costs. However I am probably going to literally throw it away and buy the comparable HP Office Jet or even laser jet. The Epson is simply too expensive to run on a page by page print basis. My partner's HP desktop comparable sized cartidges print 2X the number of pages, and my husband's HP laser 5-6 times. In any sort of work or even medium use situation DO NOT buy this machine or plan to drain your wallet on a frequent basis.

(Some plusses: the ability to charge other devices off the Epson is very handy, along with being able to scan to memory card. Good features to look for in other machines.)

 "Work horse is right" 2010-05-19
By Reenie M (New England, USA)
I've owned it for 2 months. After reading some of the bad reviews I wanted to make sure I used it for awhile before I made my review. I couldn't be happier with this unit. I haven't used the card slots nor worked with cropping scans but for printing, faxing, scanning... basic office functions, I'm loving it.
