"Do NOT Buy This Printer" 2010-08-06
By C. Glupker (Michigan)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1DLR9NCZ5110I Here's a video of this piece of junk, so see for yourself.

1. Paper jam. This is a new issue for me, but now this is all it does. NOTHING I do fixes it. I change print settings yet, still tries to take the paper at mach 1, which then crumples it up. So right now, my printer doesn't even work.

2. This is the most common error you will find and it started about a year ago. You put in a new cartridge and after a couple uses, it will reject the cartridge saying it's incompatible. HP tries to deny there is a problem yet if you google this, you will clearly see how big of an issue this really is.

If you want to throw your money away, buy this printer. Otherwise, I'd stay clear of ALL HP printers. They are inexpensive for a reason.

Sorry the video is sideways. Iphone has a tendency to suck.

 "So far, so good" 2010-07-31

The HP J4680 was available at Staples for $69, about the cost of a new set of ink cartridges for my flagging Canon MP600, so I jumped in and bought the HP.

So far, so good. While establishing the wireless connection was not entirely hassle-free, I was able to do so on the second attempt at installing the software.

The output looks great. The copier is slow compared to a multi-$thousand machine you might find in your place of work, but it was acceptable...given the cost.

The fact is, this is a networked all-in-one that appears to be entirely functional, for $69. This price has to be given serious consideration in rating the J4680. If it performs even close to adequately for a year, I would have to say I got my money's worth.

The extreme negativity of many of the reviews would suggest that many people paid more money than I did, or that their expectations were not entirely reasonable. This is a dirt cheap machine, folks.

"terrible - do not buy it!" 2010-07-18

No wonder they have lowered the price - they realize this is a terrible printer.

I have spent close to 10 hours with HP support trying to get this thing to work. The software is screwed up & they are completely inept at addressing the issue. I bought a Canon All-in-one at half the price - just to get my work done, the Canon works terrifically. This HP machine will print but not scan as pdf, which is what I bought it for. HP should be embarassed to sell a product of such poor quality.

"would NEVER buy an HP (unless I had to)" 2010-07-12
By Nina Coffey (HOMER, ALASKA, US)
HP has to have the absolute worst products EVER! They are not worth the cost, they go through ink like crazy (which isn't cheap), odd noises and ink leaks appear out of nowhere, paper doesn't insert well, feeder jams for no apparent reason, after hitting print on the computer it takes an eternity to begin the print job (i work in retail, so having to sit and wait for the printer to respond is a hassle, especially during busy season), and the scan option from the printer itself is terribly difficult to grasp, and the manual does not help explain the process.

When I began working for this company 2 years ago I had a brother printer. Old, but worked soooooo well! I went on maternity leave a year in to my career here, and returned with a new HP printer, picked out by my replacement. It broke within 6 months. I mean broke broke! and HP wouldn't replace it. Why?! Because it was bought on amazon, and was a discontinued item, so they were not taking responsibility for it. I was forced to buy a new one. I had to buy a new HP. I live in a small small small town, and the ONLY store to buy electronics ONLY sells ONE brand and ONE style of printer. Of course, that was the HP Officejet J4680 All-In-One. I got this printer in December of 2009, and 5 months the machine started streaking ink across the paper, and would sound as if a loud machine gun was going off right next to your head before and after each print job. Yeah, that sounds good in a place of business! Not to mention that I was going through a regular 901 black in cartridge in 3 days and a 901XL in 10 days (and I don't do all that much printing!). My local store that ONLY sold that printer, and the ONLY store that sold the ink for it, couldn't keep their stock up to meet my demand for the ink. I had to begin ordering it through anchorage, alaska at a higher price PLUS shipping just to try to keep up with my demand. I contacted HP, complained about the many issues I was having, reiterated my problems with their customer service from my last printer AND my bosses HP printer (which steadily leaks blue ink into the printer itself, she has to clean it daily, and the blue streaks across her printed sheets, and they refused to fix it because she didn't fill out of warranty form when she first got it), and finally came to a conclusion ... they will send me a new printer, i will send back the old one, no cost to me at all. YAY!!

But, here I am, with an HP printer that is slow on its print jobs, guzzles ink, jams, registers unwarranted feeder errors forcing me to shut down and turn on just to send a fax, sounds that I cannot place (though they are quieter than the last one), and a company that here in a few months will no longer even speak to me on the issues with this printer because my warranty will be up.

If I am to recommend one thing ... it is to NEVER purchase an HP printer! EVER EVER EVER!!

 "So-So" 2010-07-09
By Marissa Trapp (Chicago, IL)
I don't think I've ever had so much problem with a printer in my life. I guess when you get such a complicated device, complications are expected but I found this to be a bit too excessive. I'll admit, I'm not too computer savvy but I'm reasonably competent but this printer is by nowhere near being easy to set up. I finally had a friend set it up, ( still with much difficulty). Definately not worth the trouble.
